Would you move to rural Louisiana if you were paid to? One town tried it. Here's what happened.

Living here it is cool because your money goes a lot further. If you have a family it's a great place because you have a great educational system. For example my son graduated from Lincoln Prep with a high school diploma on a Monday an Associates Degree from Southern on a Saturday. Then you have two universities. The challenging part is if you are single and in that age range of 25 to 40. Also the difference with me is that I'm from here and my wife is from a much smaller and more rural area 20 minutes away.

Another point is our careers...I work for the state and I am residential building contractor....my wife is a Nurse Practicioner.

Youngsville is nice too.

I lived in Lafayette in 2001 -2002 and Youngsville was just starting to come up. I generally like Acadiana since my family is from there but it seems like there is ALOT more upside with Lafayette than any other city in Louisiana. North LA does nothing for me. Im depressed even when I have to go there for work.

I used to go down there twice-a-month for my job. Also, I caught a game at ULL on last year.

Jefferson and Orleans Parish are both a little steep. Plus, the violence in New Orleans is getting out of control.

Some other places I could live in are...
Houma, Louisiana- I.
New Iberia...
Slidell
Mandeville
.

Send my raggedy old assed to DeRidder. That's where it started with paw paw and if it was good enough for him and his momma, my great-granny, it is good enough for me. Electricity, 1 wireless carrier, access to the web, a place to park the tractors/implements (barndominium) lol, and I am happy. 👍🏿

No one wants to join me in Funston? Got a rich cousin living there now. They found oil on her property. The Prince's are from Funston and are related to me. Adia Barnes's father is from Funston.

I took my business remote in 2019, I am okay with stuff as long as it is within a 1 hour drive to the airport but I don't I could do Louisiana.

Mane come on down to the Ville I need a war time Consigliere for these Family business moves to stay legit. 🤣

I'm sorry but I thought I would never say this in my life, but Huntsville Al is the only city I want to be in. 😂 An dam it I wish y'all would stop moving here. We full. Stay where you at. 😂 I went to ATL yesterday after to work on a turn and burn to pick up something and when I got there It was still folks all on I-20 east of traffic at 19:30. I was like dude I really can't deal with this anymore. 😂 I was right back on I-20 West at 8:40 heading back to Huntsvegas. 😂 If my mom was alive she would be tickled.

Are you sure Funston is in Louisiana? Whereabouts? LOL

lol - before the recent housing market explosion across America - Ruston had no options for true middle class folks if they wanted a new house - not the one builder who overcharges but options like there was in Dallas or Houston - the same new homes in the 2000s were way overpriced than a brand new 3K square foot KB home in Texas

Ruston is cool if you have NO family/close friends in Dallas or Houston and you're close to them cause you're going to miss some everyday amenities if you keep going back to visit -

if you show up there without those distractions it can work well but you need a decent salary to live well - don't let the small town fool you - its expensive out there

Since I started my residential construction business I'm stuck. I don't mind though....just give me my 82 inch flatscreen....my recliner set...some lemonade tea...and hot plate from my wife and I'm good!!!

Nah I disagree. If you are single with no kids....then it's not the place for you.....but if you are married with young kids to high school age....or late 40s nearing that segment of retirement preparation its a good place.
