Why didn't the Swac get a AQ in the WNIT?
The Field
The 64-team field includes 32 teams that receive automatic berths - one berth from each of the nation's conferences - and 32 at-large selections. All teams at the Division I level will be considered for at-large berths, including those who are independent and/or are in the transition process of reaching full NCAA Division I status.
Automatic Berths
A team that is offered an automatic berth by the WNIT shall be the team that is a.) the highest-finishing team in its conference's regular-season standings, and b.) is not selected for the NCAA Tournament. A team that fulfills this quality will earn the WNIT automatic berth, regardless of overall or conference record.
AAMU should have got that slot.

I’m not sure what’s confusing about this. It’s and not and/or! AAMU doesn’t fit this narrative that you posted. They were not the highest-finishing team team in the conference standing! I’m assuming this goes for teams in a conference that doesn’t have an AQ.
How are they not the highest finishing team by conference regular record that was not selected for the NCAA Women's Bracket?
Looks like they are the next team after Jackson State that was not selected for the NCAA Tournament to me. Each conference gets a AQ just like the NCAA Tournament on the women's side.

Isn't Tx Southern playing Tx A&M a conflict of interest? What if Tx A&M says that they will cut your funding if they lose? How do that work?
