Look if Tennessee State comes in and we want a 14th School, there are only a few options here. The number one option would be South Carolina state. They are already division one that's familiar with the swac.
The number two option coming from division II would only be Albany State. they have the facilities their population is larger than many swac schools. They just have to come up with the money and it gives us a Georgia product. Their football team, baseball team & softball team can compete in the swac today. As far as the cash cow football they average somewhere between 7 and 8,000 a game which would easily increase. The third option would be to add a non HBCU. Many you don't like that idea. Easy fits would be West Alabama, West Georgia and West Florida.

Why is UNO being overlooked???

Feasibility study lays out roadmap for starting football at the University of New Orleans

Is the University of New Orleans ready for some football?

The murmurs from the Lakefront have been the strongest they have been in sometime as New Orleans athletic director Tim Duncan shared with Extra Points columnist Matt Brown that a feasibility study had been conducted.

One of the keys to this study is examining the finances behind where the university is heading over a five-year period.

Though the timeline can easily be adjusted with the dollars staying relatively similar, the hypothetical timeline presented in the study has the Privateers contesting full Southland Conference football and women’s soccer schedules in 2024.

The football team in this scenario would also take part in a ‘practice year’ during the 2023-24 academic calendar year.

UNO is already a member of the Southland, but doesn’t have football like Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

You’re right on all counts.

Out of the remaining D-2 HBCUs in the SWAC footprint, Albany right now has the strongest case. Doesn’t have the biggest brand name, but they already offer the sports and facilities.

If they add football does that make them a viable option though? They could leave the SLC just as easily as Tenn. St. could leave the OVC.

If true recruiting in Louisiana is going to get TIGHT.

Southern and Grambling have enough presence in NOLA UNO isn’t needed, but I could see a case. but UNO is always one major storm away frim shutting athletics down for a minute like it did after Katrina.

If Morehouse really wanted to they could easily be team 14. With all of the wealthy alumni they got financing the move wouldn’t be a problem. One call to Spike Lee and Samuel L. Jackson and it happens.

We do not need to add a 14th team if TSU joins. We can either eliminate divisions or have them unbalanced like the MAC a few years ago. I wonder if TSU would join the SWAC in football only, since the OVC keeps adding non football schools.

McClelland all but disqualified them. They would need a NCAA waiver due to being an all-mens school. Spelman dropping intercollegiate athletics a few years ago had unforeseen consequences for a Morehouse move up.

And Tuskegee has pretty much made it clear they’re not interested either. So it will probably come down to CAU, Langston and Albany St in terms of schools moving up from D-2.

It will be as an all-sports member if TSU wants to apply for membership.

You can eliminate Langston because they are NAIA so unless they get a MacKenzie Scott level donation for athletics, it's not happening

Sounds nice, but, nope. NOT happening 🙄

My friend was working at Tuskegee when they conducted a study about moving up to Division I.

In a nutshell, she said it was more a matter of not having the will to do it rather than getting the money to do it

You have an AD who was reared at Tennessee - he knows little about hbcu life so he'll speak what he only knows -

Since the prez worked at Jackson surely she knows how the other half lives

Unless Tennessee state bout to cut that check to leave, they ain’t leaving. They want the conference to get it together. The school NOT Eddie ain’t got it in em to leave.

Help educate me here! Where did their AD go to school? Is TSU's president a JSU graduate? If not, did she work at JSU at one tiime?

The Ad graduated from UT Knoxville.
The President graduated from Tenn St. but worked at JSU at lease 10 to 15 years.
