Eddie George says Tennessee St looking for a new conference

There is a lot of talk of what other school would partner with Tennessee St. to join the SWAC since coach Eddie George made this statement to make 14 teams.

Schools I feel could be in the mix.

Clark Atlanta- Atlanta, the home of the annual Celebration Bowl, is the 9th largest TV market and has 2.0 Million African Americans. Provide balance with Bethune-Cookman as both are privately funded institutions.
Morehouse- If the SWAC is looking for a bigger money TV deal, adding Nashville and Atlanta to the mix would definitely help them secure more money.
Tuskegee University – (13 Black College Football Championships). Rivals with their old SIAC members Alabama St. and Alabama A&M. Would make the Turkey Day Classic game, between Tuskegee University and Alabama State University a conference match-up.
Langston -would give the SWAC a former SWAC school, the Oklahoma market and the Oklahoma City media market.
Albany St.- stated funded institution with rich football tradition that provide the conference with a footprint into new state territory.
South Carolina St.- would be a great addition from a competitive standpoint. School fits the football culture of the SWAC. Expand the footprint into South Carolina.

All of these schools, except South Carolina State, currently don’t have the money and/or facilities built up to join the SWAC. Those D2 schools would have to get their programs/facilities to Division I status then find a conference home. That will take them years of fundraising and building.

Also, Morehouse’s makeup as an all-men’s college complicates things in regards to Title IX … which could have been resolved if Spelman still had intercollegiate athletics.

South Carolina State’s the easier deal since it’s already Division I.

Also, Atlanta is now the 7th largest market. We keep forgetting that the SWAC has inroads/presences to other large Southern markets like Dallas-Ft Worth (No. 5), Houston (No. 8), Miami-Ft. Lauderdale (18) Birmingham (45) and NOLA (50).

There are markets in the SWAC footprint that I’m sure the conference is looking to get more penetration in adjacent Top 50 markets like Tampa-St. Pete (13), San Antonio (31) , Austin (38), West Palm Beach (39) and Jacksonville (43).

IMO, we don’t ā€œneedā€ a school physically in ATL per se. We need regular season games that draw there.

Doing nothing is always a viable option! For the SWAC that is...

I honestly don't think the SWAC should do anything at this point. The conference juuuuuust added the Florida schools. There are still things to get worked out and opportunities to capitalize on with the current 12-member league.

If there is further expansion, it has to be the "right" fit for the conference.

I don't think Pres. Glover is going to be moved to take all sports to the SWAC.
I think we should let sleeping dogs lie. Tennessee State knows where we are if they should become interested. If we (SWAC) do not hear from them, then so be it. SWAC should move on with its 12 member inmstitutions and do what is best for SWAC. SWAC has more to offer TSU than the other way around.

I haven't heard someone say this in years lol. I wouldn't even know how to spell it 🤣
🤣 Same here. When I read it the first time, I didn't understand what @NastyD was trying to say. But, the second time I read it, I read it out loud, and I immediately realized what he meant. 🤣 Growing up in Alabama we said "Guide Lee" (never occurred to me to spell it that way) instead of "goddamn". 🤣

Looking forward at a fbs swac, since there are no publicly supported hbcus in the atlanta metro and cau, morehouse may not be readily available, could a future fbs swac include georgia state?
