SC STATE AD needs more money

Before my Beloved goes on a major fundraising campaign I’d be much more interested in seeing us clean out the corruption in the administration, especially the financial dept. Until that happens it doesn’t matter how much money comes in, we’ll remain on the same roller coaster as most of our schools:a good decade or so of growth followed by a downtown of some years as we work to clean up “financial irregularities” and “bad record keeping.”

Question: In your opinion, did SC State ignore SACS warnings from a few years back, or were larger forces at work to bring the university to this point?

Larger forces have been at work trying to take over my Beloved since I was a freshman back in '93. They were having meetings on campus with all kinds of officials about trying to turn it into the University of South Carolina at Orangeburg then. I believe that may be the reason Dr. Hatton only lasted the two years, but I don't remember if she was for or against the change. Crakkkas in that state have always had it out for SCSU.

It can be both. It depends on the school in question and the consequences of those antics take time to reveal themselves.

If you recruiting office is PACKED with TOXIC folks.
If you got folks who do as LITTLE as possible to help kids' with aid and scholarships.
If you don't question why you have more orders for expensive furniture versus fixing the campus.

Don't be shocked if you struggle to get recruits.

enrollment decline - address that and you solve a lot of issues.

High enrollment offsets a lot of issues - low enrollment means you know what

SC State's enrollment is small and that's sad considering what they mean in SC and proximity to Atlanta, Charlotte, etc.

what is the largest enrollment SCSU has ever had? I know during the 90s and early 2000s it seemed like they had alot of students at the school.
 
Look!!! SC State will never get a large enrollment. State has been left behind. People have to understand and I have said it before. You have schools like CCU,which is dominating the Coastal area up to Columbia, you add schools like Charleston Southern which went from nothing to adding new buildings and a football program, and also USC Aiken. Most blacks in the UPSTATE are going to Clemson, or USC Upstate, or Winthrop, and now you have Greenville Tech offering 4 year degrees along with Spartanburg Community College and SMC through USC Upstate where these students don't have to leave their respected campuses. Greenville Tech and Spartanburg Community College offer campus housing..

Would a USC -Orangeburg help?? I only say that because USC Upstate is about to break away from the System with a 200 million masterplan that has already started with a med school with VCOM new arena and several new academics building.

All schools are competing for a swindling pool of students. Programs and available scholarships appear to drive enrollment.

That entire read was depressing. It sounds like the state legislature intentionally neglected SCS while ensuring other state supported institutions around it flourished. I think some of the other posters are right to mention SC State needs to head to court for equitable funding. The state of Texas had to be sued by the U.S. Department of Civil Rights, under the Clinton administration, to force it into funding Texas Southern and Prairie View close to anything resembling equity.

This has not been ignored by me or most. Wouldn't be surprised to see more of our schools end up back in federal courts over underfunding (I think the Ayers case settlement money ended last year here)

The point that a few of us on this thread are making is that black celebs are the only ones who can get away with not doing their fair share to help out the community (not with just money but in other areas (paying off politicians to push for policies that benefit our community))

Further confirmation SCS needs to head to court. It seems like Dr. Hugine numbered his days by drafting and sharing that revival plan.

Their BOTs were likely following orders from the state capital to terminate him if that was the case.. In situations like that alumni can at best delay the inevitable, but the duration of that delay will be short lived.

sounds about right....the state of South Carolina pulled a fast one on scstate
