There should have been a Swac-Meac Challenge in basketball a long time ago. It don't have to be at a neutral site, just split the schools up and play half at each others home court. It's gonna be harder since the Meac will be smaller next year with A&T, FAMU & BCC leaving the conference. I guess you'll have to pull names out of a jar to see who gets to play.

I think a good lineup for men would be:
Texas Southern (SWAC)
Tennessee State (OVC)
North Carolina Central (MEAC)
Hampton (BIG SOUTH)

For women I wouldn't mind seeing:
Jackson State (SWAC)
Alabama A&M (SWAC)
Bethune-Cookman (SWAC)
Howard (MEAC)

I was trying to keep the matchups as OOC so not to throw off conference scheduling, but then that would mean TnSU would be participating in both tournaments. But the women's bracket is just too good to pass up. Realistically, it'd probably be a CIAA team thrown in the mix. Lincoln's women's team has looked very strong so far this year. Even a WSSU could draw well.

I know the commissioner and his people read these boards. This needs to happen next year.

You could also do some type of showcase/MTE inviting the other HBCUs in PWI conferences but then again f them lol. Tired of rewarding part time HBCUs who run to PWI conferences but still want the HBCU benefits athletically

Because all that does is get the program bashed as needing money "to support the entire program" versus what is said about PWC who do the same. They get the "testing yourself against top teams, recruitment tool and post season training" comments.

We know the SWAC & MEAC are one tournament leagues.

Why send kids on death marches to play Texas, North Carolina, Kansas, Duke and so on to be winless going into conference play.

Let the HBCU showcase take 6 of those games away. Have it in once place for say 2 weeks. Have your recruiters recruit within that area.

Example Dallas-you can get Lancaster, Red Oak, Lake Highlands, Arlington, Mansfield, Desoto, Duncanville, Richardson, Irving, Fort Worth, Mesquite and Plano area schools. How many schools could you cover in a week or two? Or do meet and greet at the mall with players. Hell have a college fair in one of the hotels and SELL HBCU merchandise.
