Podcast: Alcorn’s weak 2020 football schedule & the SWAC’s D2 scheduling strategy

You didn’t call out Grambling or SU ! GSU was SWAC Champs with a similar schedule but you wanna call out Alcorn. You are pathetic right along with your whack azz reporting.
Plus SU and PV both played Edward Waters and VUL this season. Didn't see a podcast calling them out. Why title it all SWAC school continue the trends of adding cupcake games?

I may be in the minority but I have no problem with Alcorn's schedule. Until our conference puts a better product on the field I see no reason to keep getting your brains beaten out and players demoralized for a check. Even FCS programs are kicking us to sleep these days. Alcorn is getting it right in my opinion...stay healthy and confident for conference and the SCG and the Celebration Bowl.

Don’t completely disagree
Title feels a little shady
It's all good, brother. But there is nothing shady about the title.

The title is appropriate because as it stands now, Alcorn (supposedly one of the better schools in the conference) is the only school so far that is playing a nonconference schedule with an emphasis on playing down as opposed to playing schools on its level.

If the product is going to get any better, it begins by CONSISTENTLY playing better competition. As I stated in the podcast, the MEAC has shown us how it can be done.

GSU has been SWAC champs for a lot of years, (more than Alcorn) can you be more specific?

And unless you have been living in a cage, EVERYONE who posts on this message board regularly knows that I am on record (and have been extremely vocal) about GSU's nonconference schedule. Especially, the schedule for THIS year.

It pains me to agree with you. The MEAC has passed the SWAC........Blasphemy!

You cannot reason withe the person that runs the site because speaking freely he will probably ban you for life. He is iust being the usual unreasonable and bias person as always. Alcorn because of the location is one of the toughest road trips in FCS. No one wants to make that trip for an a$$ beating. Most schools we ask for a home and home but they don't want to do it. We have earned the right that that we don't have to have a schedule with just 4 home games. If the schools want to play us then bring their a$$ to Lorman. If not I'm fine with the schedule and no one gives a rats a$$ what Ken thinks or values his opinion.

Brother, say that shit and stop making excuses. Nobody is going to ban you. The purpose of this forum is to share your opinion. It's not surprising that you would take this position Alcorn. It's OK. But you can't say "no one give a rat's ass" about what I think and in then in the same breath validate it by responding to what I think. It kinda contradicts your point.

I’m disappointed in the scheduling of our supposed teams , JSU has been guilty of this as well, but we clearly are in different times than others in Conference. I think the SUs , GSUs , and Alcorns of the worlds should be looking to schedule more meac , and the higher Elites of the siac (Miles, Tuskegee, etc) , and maybe an occasional CIAA like Bowie State foes as SU did this past year with picking FAMU back up.. I’m all for keeping black money in our instutions rather than putting ours out there to get beat by 40, cause injuries to our better players, and lower the Conference due to injury or the morale of the team.., however the big picture is folks... SWAC May have better records due to weaker scheduling and maybe a tick down in the product on the field , but the big picture is it looks bad come celebration bowl time when we are put up against hbcus in another conference that are solid from top to bottom. Since the inception of the celebration bowl... the SWAC has won one time and that was Grambling in ‘16, not a good look... its bigger than one school... when I see JSU getting beat by Kentucky state, Texas southern losing to Missouri A&M , Alabama A&M barely beating a smaller Morehouse squad, and both the defending and west division champs Alcorn and Southern losing too McNeese who finish near the bottom of their respective conference because of coaches just saying “whatever” when they’re the better team it’s very concerning.... our conference, our coaches, and our athletic administrations have got to do better. I know we laugh and smack each other j state being the latest victim, but it looks bad on all of us and it’s not a good look for the conference when our elites don’t go play the McNeese , Nichols etc and win. Just is. Til we get it right, MEAC will continue to kill us in Atlanta.

Preach! Say it again!

Well, you'd probably need to know what my argument is FIRST before asking "why?"

I agree with just about all of this, but we can't point the finger at AAMU barely beating Morehouse without mentioning that AAMU also beat an FCS PWI. And yes, UNA finished with 4 wins, but they weren't 4-7 on September 14th. The mantra still has to be, "play them and beat them" in regards to FCS PWIs.

Kenn i think this is a great discussion on what we should be focusing on going forward. I think in most cases we are watering down the SWAC brand playing these lower level schools. I applaud Southern for not just loading up FBS schools to collect a check but to add some HBCU marquee matches that will bring in the revenue by attracting fans to the game. Alcorn should be having every home game sold out but that wont happen with these teams that they are scheduling. I am disappointed that a team that has won the SWAC east 6 straight times not take on the upper echelon of the FCS or even schedule some MEAC teams.

The Valley/Alcorn game in Lorman wasn't even half sold out.

Like JSU and probably SU (AAMU is ranked high among FCS schools as well) are the only schools that aren't having these home issues. We are still in that "big game" mindset and it is hurting us (and that includes Valley who only looks forward to JSU, Alcorn and Homecoming)

The same UNA that jsu ran from only to replace them with Kentucky st...we see how that turned out😭

Well put I only bring that to the table because at the time your game against morehouse was a opener and also a classic that got some media attention up north at the time. The UNA game was a great victory but tbh the attention it got fell flat compared to the morehouse game and it being yalls first impression to the northern market. Alabama A&M had an awesome elite year, but I think it’s time for all of us to put our dirt on the table, see how we can improve, and reach out to our athletic departments and either speak up or see how we can better support our hbcus in the SWAC. I’m gone be honest ... if we win the Celebration bowl , I will be very shocked.
