Thank goodness basketball season is almost here. They just started practice. TSU football is a non-factor.

Also we couldn't even sell out our campus stadium which came together surprisingly nicely ... most people decided to stay outside and tailgate and listen to the band.

I recall the last time we played a football game on campus, we just added extra seating in the one end zone. However, this year, they added more seats on the home side above the existing stands, additional seats on the visitor's side above the small existing section and another section on the visitors side from the 20-yard line that extended past the goal line.

I would have hoped all of those seats had been filled BUT with a 0-5 record AND the unknown opponent, I think we did good to get the over 8K that went into the game. I'm not sure if the students were counted in the attendance figure. As you said, hundreds if not thousands skipped the game and tailgated.

Big shout out to the University for the new iron fence surrounding the stadium and "home of the tigers entrance. The tailgating area gets larger every year. When/if we start winning I'm confident that attendance talk (low) will not exist.

Dude....

If you noticed the north endzone where the Ocean and Ocean alumni sat was dedicated exclusively for them. It seats over 2,000 but we only had 550-575 of them.

Another section of the bleachers were constructed too close to power lines so we couldn't seat anyone there.

That's why it wasn't a sellout.

In the 2000s when we had homecoming on campus, they placed people with the band due to a high demand and lack of seats (when we had at least a halfway watchable team). I'm saying clearly there wasn't a high demand to be inside the game which isn't surprising, TSU football is in the trenches right now and it ain't pretty ... we had a good enough attendance considering the level of our play but for SWAC standards we didn't hold up to the standard.

I'll say this ... TSU homecomings have gotten better since Dr. Lane took over. I remember homecomings being pretty festive as a student but today it's a whole different level and a whole lot better. Just about every hot black club and bar in Houston had a TSU Homecoming theme. Rick Ross surprised a lot people on campus last night. Also it seemed as if more Houston locals with no ties to TSU were out to party and socialize. I would be jealous of the new students then I remember they will leave with more debt .... my tuition and college dorm (Tierwester Oaks) was half of what they pay now.

Texas Southern University's Homecoming is 3-0 ... undefeated!

I'm very confident once we start winning attendance will go up. I feel like with all the great things going on on campus there's a renewed and stronger pride in TSU for many. When I was student it was so fustrating to see most of the students didn't match my pride for TSU or rarely running into alumni off campus that repped TSU with pride like I seen with other HBCUs (Morehouse, Southern University, Howard, even Prairie View). But now I see the pride level from the students on campus being what I wanted when I was there and also it's more common for me now to see TSU alumni wearing a school shirt, car tag, something when I'm not on campus. I was actually recently stopped in New Orleans at the airport by a TSU alumnus wearing a TSU alumni shirt almost like mine. If you look at the various TSU alumni chapters across the nation, you'll notice TSU alumni engagement is like at an all-time high ... this is great, I hope it only gets better!

The trajectory of TSU is in the right direction. Especially if we can get football going again and improve in the US News HBCU rankings
