The Elephant in the Room Question: Does HBCU Programs Really Try to Beat Their FBS (Money Game) Opponents

I ask this question because I look at the coaching decisions Bama State made last night.....then I go back to when GSU played Arizona and literally were kicking their ass. Then it seems like when the game should be put away our coaches let up off the gas.

I brought these comments up to someone (that I will NEVER name) and this person said yes our coaches do not want to win these games. The reason is if we start winning these money games there is a less likely chance that these FBS programs extend the offer again to play them. This person went on to say that FBS programs have to beat FCS opponents especially HBCU programs by a large margin to maintain the respect of the polls. Of course the polls equate money by going to various bowl games in the post season.

So what are you all's thoughts....I mean I'm still confused on many of the coaching calls by Bama State last night.

This is NO shade to Bama State which is why I mentioned GSU as well.

Stop reading my mind. I have asked myself the same question for a long time.
 



I wanted to comment in the Bama St thread but didn’t think it appropriate there.

It’s the infamous “HBCU atta’boy” pat on the head I’m sick of it. There is no such thing as a “close” win. The ONLY times a “close” closure is applauded is in the games of horseshoe toss & hand-grenade toss.

SWAC schools direly need to win ALL games OOC, vs fbs or fcs, vs HBCU or pwcu.
 
Alabama state literally had the W I don’t think I’ve seen a worse stretch of conservative play calling outside that unfortunate interception and poor execution on special teams in a while ... I literally woke up and saw that interception and said wtf ... swac ... hbcus we got to do better man ... future recruits watch these games and even if it’s not my school playing I want success and flourishing recruits coming back to our hbcus what better way to do that than to close our fbs games when we have a chance to win them... smh

Bruh....one thing I can tell you for certain, Fobbs don't play that mess. Grambling loss that game to Zona because the starting QB got hurt and the 2nd string QB was just not on the same level. If you don't, should know better....

If you are a coach at an FCS school and you start beating FBS schools, you are likely going to get FBS coaching offers soon.

Sometimes coaches just make bad decisions or you see why they are FCS coaches to begin with.

It's not about the coach but the school to consistently get money games. Say JSU starts kicking FBS team's but....JSU will slowly start getting removed from FBS schedules because no FBS program is willing to risk their shot in the polls.

I don't think he was as hurt as the sideline put on. A reliable source told me how Zona's coach was shaking at halftime. Fobbs pulled the dogs off. We actually had second string defensive players out there.
 
Also it's not just GSU playing Arizona or Alabama State last night.....there have been a host of these games where I'm sitting there like "WTF was play called for?????"

I mean our coaches can't be that confused or for lack of other words that piss poor in decision making.

I simply don't believe that. Eddie Rob don't build them like that.

This......I know Odums had a solid game plan against Georgia and the players did their best and actually had them shook up at the half. Then finally depth plus adjustments kicked in and superior athletes. Sometimes, you just have to call a spade a spade.
 



I think coaches sometimes overthink situations when the games are close. It’s like you’re rappin to a pretty woman who is digging you, but you overthink and say something that friend zones you

In a word....Judas.

We have to remember these teams did not want to play against Coach Rob in his prime. Also, the money is talking now and quite frankly many of our university leaders could care less about heritage when they barely can afford necessities.
 
Yall actually believe our coaches don't pull back?

If any HBCU starts to consistently beat FBS programs those FBS programs will stop playing that school.

These coaches associate with one another at conferences etc.....if you are a FCS program and know that you put up a good fight against a FBS and lose...you still have a job....shidddd let a FBS program lose to a FCS....a few things will happen.. Either the FBS coach will be fired or there will be a private meeting held with the AD with a threat of being fired. I'm telling you guys those white boys not having it.

I'm not saying our coaches are throwing games but I have seen some straight bone headed decisions made by our coaches that lost our schools the games.

Heck we play schools and get $300k. They have boosters that pay the money. Heck I remember when GSU played Oklahoma State. We were not going to take the band....hell T Boone Pickett heard about that and paid the money to have the band there.

Money and promises talk.....all this we are competing with FBS programs is some BS. This is why I am slowly getting to the point of not wanting to play those games. Yet, not playing them comes with a cost. I would personally rather play non HBCU FCS programs in neutral sites.

If anybody in Alabama doesn't think that Bama State pulled back our the coach made a bone head decision something is not right. Go back and read the comments that some of you made. That tells a story and a narrative.
 
Yea i believe our coaches pull back. Injuries and conference play is most important to them. I believe they have the mindset, get the pay check and get out of here healthy for the division play, and i dont blame them. Yea I'll show first half i can compete with a PWI but second half i would peel back my players for the rest of the season. Remember you have to play smart not hard.

I get what you are saying and you are right. Yet...there have been games where we clearly could have won and our coaches either pull players or just flat call some dumb play that makes no sense.

Man if you think Fobbs is a Judas, you've lost your mind. That other stuff about certain teams not wanting to play Coach Rob back in the day is common knowledge and off topic.
