alabama st/florida state payout

Wow, that's kind of cheap considering La Tech paid us 375,000. If FSU doesn't get it together, Bama State may give them a hard time.

It's a little over 200 miles from Montgomery to Tallahassee so $425K (assuming they bring the band) is a decent little pay day for a turn around trip
Understood, but it is not up to Florida State to cheapen Bama State's payout simply because of the distance. If Florida State was willing to give Samford $500K, there is no reason Bama State could have gotten the same.

Grambling allowed the same mistake with La. Tech. GSU is literally 3 miles from La. Tech, yet, Grambling agreed to play Tech $50,000 less than Southern.

Yet another reason to replace these games with corporate sponsorship dollars.

If it were that easy no FCS schools would play P5s.

Not true. Some FCS are actually in much better shape than the SWAC and actually put that money back into the FOOTBALL program.

HBCUs aren't putting half a million back into football. If I'm wrong, prove me wrong.

Yet they all still play money games.

That sounds like a problem with the schools then.

I posted what I posted because the Southern person said about what they got for La Tech when the distance from Ruston to Baton Rouge is similar to Tallahassee to Montgomery (the latter is a little closer). If you wanna say "FSU is a P5 national brand compared to La Tech" then I can buy that.

I am against SWAC schools playing any top 40-50 schools. That being said, if you are a SWAC school and gonna do it, get at least a half million especially if you are gonna bring the band like Southern did with UGA a couple years ago

Oh, without question it's a school problem and the ADs that negotiate these contracts. I've been pretty consistent on this issue. I said that same about PV when they paid Texas A&M a few years back. Texas A&M and PV are 45 minutes apart but Texas A&M paid Lamar more when they played. TCU paid SELU more than it paid Grambling and SELU didn't have have to bring a band.

I'm not suggesting that La. Tech needs to pay as much as FSU. I think it's all relative. But we know FSU has the ends to pay more.

All of our schools spend over that on football alone.

I didn't say they didn't. I said they don't put the money game revenue back into the program that BROUGHT the revenue.

Show me a SWAC head coach who received the full amount of a money game check back into his budget for either recruiting or resource upgrades...

Do we have a choice? Now I am not one to want to play P5 schools....but the ULMs of the world....yes

Another thing...those large schools have to put up numbers because of National Championship and Bowl appearances. IF the NCAA would find a way to financially enhance FCS inter competition then we might be on to something.

I'm not sure you you can prove either way. The checks are written to the school/athletic dept in every case (not just HBCUs).

There are some other things that may be included on top of the amount said the school is to receive. I know when PV played Tamu, Rice, Unlv & Sam they also got housing and meals for the team so they didn't have to pay for those things out of the monies they received for playing.
