A pregnant woman was shot in the stomach. She was charged in her baby’s death

A 27-year-old Alabama woman was indicted on manslaughter charges Wednesday for the shooting death of her own unborn child, even though, police say, another woman pulled the trigger.

The moment quickly became a flash point for abortion rights advocates as an example of restrictive abortion laws in Alabama criminalizing actions that may endanger a fetus.

Marshae Jones of Birmingham was five months pregnant on Dec. 4 when an argument broke out between her and another woman outside a Dollar General, AL.com reported. The fight, which police said was over the fetus’s father, led 23-year-old Ebony Jemison to shoot Jones in the stomach. The mother survived the shooting, but it resulted in a miscarriage.

If the pregnant woman initiated the fight and the woman was defending herself then I can see how they came to this conclusion. The pregnant woman had no regard for what was in her stomach.

The pregnant woman should have thought of her unborn child and how altercations can end up deadly for the child.

My wife has an aunt who is same age as my wife....37. She married my wife’s great uncle who is 80. She cheated on him 3 times and had 3 different kids. The last one she claimed she was raped at Wal-Mart. Well when she was pregnant she would talk shit to a number of women in my wife’s family. When they got ready to knock the shit out of her she would step back and say “oh you going to hit a pregnant lady.”

Well after she had that baby she has never come around the family because they are going to whoop her ass.

I said that to say...is/was this the case for the pregnant mom?

Yet the lesson learned is to just walk away.

There is something in this law that states if the mother irresponsibly places her unborn child in peril, that she could face charges.

I get that RRS, what I'm talking about is whether or not deadly force, force that normally leads to serious bodily injury or death, was warranted in this situation. Force which is used to subdue or restrain a person is one thing, force which is used involving hand strikes, forearm strikes, closed fist, knee strikes or kicking is another. I question whether deadly force was warranted in this situation that's why I've been wondering is there much more to this story than has been reported. The grand jury did not indict the shooter which arouses my suspicion there is much more to this story.

So let's get this right. The pregnant woman was the instigator....trying to throw hands while carrying a child. Why couldn't she take in to consideration that a punch to the stomach or high physical contact could cause a miscarriage.

Hell I told my wife she not allowed to wear heels when she is pregnant because she likes 3 and 4 inch heels and I'm scared she may fall.

The girl who shot her was probably getting her ass beat. I don't think it was a situation of her going to the car and getting the gun then coming back and shooting the girl. I think it was that she was in her car and the pregnant woman was kicking her ass.
