2018 SWAC Championship game relocated

You say that now, but folks better hope AAMU don't roll off 3 straight divisional championships. And what happens when both teams finish with the same record and hasn't played each other.

if AAMU wins the East and has the better record than the West rep, then they earned the right to host ... point blank.

What are you gonna say next, "pray Valley doesn't win the East undefeated?"

If both teams finish with the same record and haven't played each other, then other tiebreakers — like point differential between like opponents, for example — will be used.

Remember, this is only for this year. If chips fall as some would like, it might prompt the SWAC to continue with the "best record hosts" format.

I think we need to keep in mind that this decision to move the SCG on campus is (as far as I know) just for this year. There is nothing that indicates that his will be the case for next year.
But you would have to admit, this is a helluva trial run.
But the success (or lack thereof) could possibly open the door for relocating to campus for the SCG (and maybe basketball tourneys).

I've long been a proponent of the SCG being held at the home site of the team with the best record. I also believe the SWAC Baseball/Softball tourneys should be scrapped in favor of a best-of-three championship series at the school with the best record.

Basketball tournament, now that's a bridge too far for some campus sites. Although I do believe the tournament puts our strongest candidate in the most jeopardy, I understand why the conference would want to do it. Personally, either do the basketball tournament or scrap it to just have the regular season champion go on to the NCAAs.

I say keep the basketball tournament at a pre-planned site.

Why do people care about if Alcorn hosts it. If they have the best record then it is what it is. Its not their concern to accomodate the other team's fans. I like this move.
That would be true if this wasn't a SWAC sanctioned event. While the only two groups of people who will likely attend this game will be those who support the teams involved, the conference still has a responsibility to do whatever possible to make this game as appealing as possible to EVERYONE.

Should the Braves get lucky enough to host:

Since 2008 the largest crowd has been 40,352. We have played JSU on campus and the crowd exceeded 30,000. With games such as Southern and Jackson capacity can be expanded to accommodate 40,000. With the exception on JSU I don’t believe we have another team in the conference well TSU can do it meaning handle the SCG without some challenges because all the other institutions have on campus stadiums. I’ve gone to many games there and you make your arrangements and time to leave home. But I’ll tell you one thing once you get on campus you will totally enjoy the game day experience, ask the JSU and SU folks. We know how to entertain fans.

I think it will be a tremendous opportunity to showcase our schools and campuses.

I believe the largest we’ve had on campus was around 30,000 - 32,000 and there were still a number of seats available. Now I agree just like SU lt would be hard to handle 40,000 because it’s difficult getting on and off the campus. However doing those large games the HP was there and it was one way 4 lanes in and 4 lanes out after the game at Alcorn.

Ken only attendees come now whose schools are playing, you get several thousand not from the schools but it’s not a great difference. Now what is a difference is all the weekly activities if hosted on campus. What else is a worry to me is if the game goes down to the last games of the season you have less than two weeks to market and get ready to host. On campus may not be good in the long run.

There’s so many things that need to be factored in when it comes to swac fans lol
The #1 problem will be the weather.
So the host team should just be ready to accommodate the ride or die fans & be done with it. Pack the east & west side & call it a day.

I remember S.U. playing Alcorn in Lorman a few years back and the attendance was a little over 33K

Also the casual fan and corporate dollars.

If this continues on would it force Our schools to expand stadium seating much faster to accommodate the casual fan who may want to be part of the Championship atmosphere??

Eyeballs will definitely be on the TV when the Scg comes on. The tailgating will be Awesome too.

I would say you don’t expand seating for a game you may never host. You bring in portable seating.
