BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has announced that the upcoming 2018 SWAC Toyota Football Championship game initially scheduled to be played at Legion Field in Birmingham has been relocated.

The title game is now slated to be held at the home venue of the SWAC institution with the highest ranking that qualifies for the championship game. If required, tiebreakers in the league’s constitution and bylaws will be used to determine team rankings heading into the championship game.

Being that Alcorn has the best record, there’s only 2 Hotels near Alcorn and they’re 200 miles away. That’s gone be a mess. It’ll still be good for Alcorn financially which is dope.
I agree that the logistics for travel to and from Alcorn is not favorable and everyone doesn't have an RV to offset the post game and tailgate lethargy, but 200 miles is quite the exaggeration!

I don’t think they will need hotels for Lorman. They can go and drive back home. I just think overall Jackson is the best spot

Baton Rouge is only 100 miles away from Alcorn... turnaround trip!

I mean, for SU and Gram of course that’s like a turn around trip but a lot of people are gone want to stay with the game being so early. It’s hectic getting on Alcorn campus for big games at 6pm as it is. If the SCG is at 2pm, folks gone have to start heading to campus SUPER early.

I wonder what happened with the deal with the city of Birmingham since they were covering all the cost of the teams stay for the Championship game. Are they still on the hook for this cost since a contract was signed.

This is a definite scratch for them if they are trying to get this game back there, since this will always be a problem since UAB uses that stadium.

Doing this will be a logistical nightmare and what about people that have already purchased airfare to Birmingham for the championship weekend. I guess they are all screwed.

Did you read the article? I agree with the reasoning behind moving the game. I just think Alcorn is a tough place to get in an out of for big games.

This type game will bring in lots of money to the community of Alcorn and Warren county. Everybody complaining about having the game at Alcorn but I bet yall still will be at the game.
it will bring money but you can’t sit here and say it’s going to accommodate a SWAC Championship with SU involved

Dude, I've been to Southern and Alcorn game when the game was at Henderson Stadium. Henderson Stadium is Alcorn old stadium, we will be fine. We take care of business and Alcorn loses it will be at Mumford. I like this setup of the championship.
