2018 Swac Football Attendance - Week 6

Yep! Let's just hope Haywood can turn many of those L's into W's to get more fans (ticket buyers) into the stadium.

I don’t know what marketing is like for Texas Southern games, but there has to be an increased effort to attract fans to the stadium...losing does hurt attendance, I completely understand that, there’s gotta be an attitude shift.

I’m not tryna come down on Texas Southern, but I want to see all of our HBCUs looking strong.

Well also keep in mind that our school is in the middle of a cool and dynamic major city. A higher portion of our students have jobs (part time jobs are easy to find in Houston) or out exploring the 1,000s of things to do nearby (concerts, shopping, clubs, bars, restaurants, festials, etc)

Students in Jackson, Baton Rouge, Pine Bluff, and even Prairie View etc don't have the same luxuries and distractions as TSU students. So campus life for TSU students is not the center of their universe like it is as our peer institutions, but I still will like to see them make more of an effort to support our teams. On a positive note, I do feel like the new dorm completed in 2016 did help with campus life ... I notice more students on campus since it was completed.

And I think it's a Houston problem looking at UH. Most of their students don't support them either. UH student body is over 40,000 and alumni base over 200,000 but only close to 30K (40K capacity) showed up to the Tulsa game yesterday and I'm sure most were alumni. And UH has a 4-1 record.

What is a 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 year old doing in Houston that they are not doing in Baton Rouge, Jackson, or Pine Bluff? The dynamism of your fair city and the multitude of attractions it offers, should be partaken of when and where appropriate and providing the students' pocketbooks can afford same. There is only so much these kids can do if their PRIORITIES (their studies, their academic pursuits) are in the right places. My 17 year old granddaughter, who is from Mesquite, located in the Dallas MSA, attends TSU as a Freshman pharmacy major. Just yesterday she shared with me that "the same kids who hang out at her dorm when she leaves for classes are the same ones who are there when she returns." The suggestion was that there are large numbers of kids who are in college for the wrong reason (something other than to get an education.) Maybe all those attractions in Houston would have wide appeal to them since they appear to be at TSU for something other than an to earn a degree. All of the cities I mentioned previously have concerts, shopping malls, clubs, bars, restaurants, festivals, movie theaters, bowling allies, themed parks, water slides, golf courses, you name it. And I am sure that their offerings don't compare to Houston. They don't have to! But they are enough to keep a disinterested college student busy and distracted from the purpose for which he is in college in the first place.

Around most of TX they like winners. If you a'int winning they definitely a'int coming especially people of color.
But they go to Cowboys games regardless if the team is losing.

Cleb, Houston is the 4th largest city in America, and by all accounts, an extraordinarily dynamic city. As to that truth, there is no denying! Just about every city on Earth with 6.5 million citizens is a dynamic city. I live in Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana. One hundred fifty-six thousand (156,000) people call this area home, and another 300,000 converge on Monroe daily as the largest city in a trade area of a half million people. All of the amenities and facilities I alluded to in an earlier post exist in the Monroe area, and some exist in abundance. At one time, Pine Bluff was slightly bigger than Monroe, population-wise. As such, I assume that It has the same or similar amenities and facilities as Monroe. Now I do realize that Pine Bluff could be a part of the Little Rock MSA, a larger city and the capitol city, and if so, even more so does it enjoy the amenities and facilities previously mentioned.

You just cant be seriously comparing the amount of things to do in Houston as to those in Arkansas or Monroe Louisiana lol. I'm not trying to be funny but that's like comparing the amount of things to do in Atlanta and Albany. It's just nowhere NEAR the same. In Albany on a Saturday you may have 1 or 2 things going on. In Atlanta you may have Six Flags Fright fest, Atlanta United soccer game, Braves baseball game, Hawks exhibition, Georgia Tech football game, UGA football game, concert at centennial, concert at woodruff, a road race, the southern bbq competition at Atlantic Station, etc all going on at the SAME time. You're not dealing with that in those little cities.

No, I'm not! Not at all! But I am saying that any college student who is serious about his business would not have the time to be a participant in all Atlanta has to offer.
