A LONG TIME COMING!!!
There are still hurdles to clear before this can happen. The student body has to vote for it, a fee amount per student has to be determined and legislative action during the upcoming 2019 state legislative session has to be done to permit it.
Students at PV and Texas Southern have taken this approach before successfully. It really is a shame a state as wealthy as ours doesn't allocate auxiliary funding for athletics, but commits a load of funding for incarceration and a funding formula that rewards the haves over the have-nots in higher education.
A LONG TIME COMING!!!
And this is what folks don’t understand. A school district can do bond issues for improvements, and there are no line item vetoes. A university doesn’t have that luxury.
So is the BBVA Compass thing that bad, or is this one piece to a bigger plan TSU has?
In my opinion BBVA isn't bad. I think what is driving this is the students looking down 290 at PV and wanting the same at Texas Southern.
Is there preliminary designs on how it would ultimately look??? I think this is great that TxSU is getting there own on-campus stadium. I believe TnSt has/is upgrading their stadium to do the same.
Is it even possible to build a PV-type stadium on the current Durley site? Can TSU get some really breaded entities to throw down with them on this? I'm interested to see what happens next
It isn’t bad but we just want something to call our own and look like our own! Just tired of settling (and yeah we know it was and is for the best to be at BBVA) but a stadium would definitely help attract the 15k enrollment they are striving for and help increase school spirit! In my opinion BBVA isn't bad. It would be really nice if it's on the level of Alabama State's stadium.
You ask some interesting questions. To answer your first question, if that's what the students desire, land-wise I don't see how it can be done. Expectations would have to be lowered in my opinion. Your second question, well now that presents what is called a dilemma. In our case a hell of a dilemma.
Parking???
They may need to consider a parking deck.

I hate to be so negative, but I don’t see how you can fit a decent stadium at the current location. First of all the current stadium runs northwest to southeast. On the northeast side of the current stadium butts up against. the student center. The only room that separates the current stadium and the student center is a narrow walk way. On the south side of the stadium is more room, but you have those massive power lines running through the middle of parking lot c. The tract of land wher the stadium currently sits is pie shape. On the northwest side of the current stadium damn near sits on the Tiger Walk. You can’t fit Delmar Stadium or Waller ISD Stadium where our stadium currently sit.

Google HBU Husky stadium. Might be the best option.I literally just google mapped the campus and was playing mental Tetris trying to figure out what to do with Durley. Maybe change the field orientation from what it is now and just straighten it?
It’s really a dilemna.
