Congrats on the domination of Miles College in your football game last night. My dad attended, he said he was very impressed even though he was pulling for Miles. But I explained to him since I am a travel coach that the AD just hired a new softball coach that is 26 years old. Her age by itself shouldn't prevent her from being hired she is a very nice young lady. But she has two years of coaching under her belt at A&M. I know three coaches that would have taken that job and applied for it that are seasoned softball coaches. What in the world is going on at A&M with the hiring in that athletic department? They simply just moved up another baseball coach 3rd in a row. That athletic department wins consistantly at nothing at all.

Let me chime in on this. I don't know what lead to the selection and hiring of the new softball coach. You would have to call and ask AD Hicks those questions...

But in working in higher ed, being on interview committees and even recently being interviewed for an HBCU for a position that I know I was qualified for but not hired, I've learned that sometimes a person that is hired is not always the most qualified or seemingly the most able person for that position.

It seems like it should not be that way but sometimes a person is chosen because the powers that be have their own favorite which is what makes the person chosen the better fit for whomever is running the administration. I've seen this happen over and over and over again. It happens everywhere, HBCUs, PWIs, etc. It's not fair...it is what it is... Sometimes it doesn't work but sometimes it does....

As for the young lady, yes she is quite young and probably lack experience that others may have had but, maybe Hicks or whomever saw something in her that was needed for the program (loyalty, zeal, willingness to work with limited resources)...not saying that was the case but you just never know what is going on behind the scenes...(shrugging shoulders)...

Many leaders have a penchant for desiring subordinates who will be loyal and take orders over subordinates that are effective and can produce but may not be easily controlled.

Not saying thats truthfully the case with these hires, but it does signify a trend. And note how quickly Donnie Marsh cut out of town for an ASSISTANT job...
