An already simmering quarterback situation at Grambling State has turned up to near boiling in the northeast Louisiana summer heat.
Last month, Arkansas State quarterback transfer and New Orleans native Aldon Clark decided to join the Tigers as a walk-on and raised the temperature at the key position where there’s currently a combined one start on roster.
Returners sophomore Geremy Hickbottom, who owns the lone start in the young group, and junior Charles Wright found themselves gridlocked after a highly competitive spring session. Grambling signed Quincy Mitchell as part of its 2018 recruiting class and welcomed Ricky Travis as a freshman walk-on in late May, but neither stand to unseat the top two for the playing time this year.
With Clark, who redshirted last season at Arkansas State, it’s a different story for the newcomer.
After announcing his intention to leave the Red Wolves, Clark received scholarship offers from other FBS programs but turned them down to return close to home. Also playing at Grambling gives the redshirt freshman quarterback with four years of eligibility left a chance to return to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
“One of our own Gramblinites is the football coach at Edna Karr (Brice Brown). We definitely been keeping our eyes on his program for a number of years. It's been dominant, successful, won a lot of football games,” Fobbs said. “(Clark’s) been someone we’ve always known, it was just that the timing didn’t work out for us, then he was getting so many big offers. We were in a position we knew it’d be tough to get him
