Youth sports faces shortage of refs who ‘don’t want to stand there and take the abuse'

Man a few weeks ago a certain Hall of Famer was coaching his son's team and got double-T'd and kicked out of the building. Not sure what he told that ref but it must have been a "good" one. lol

PrimeTime tourney? He got the double-T all at once?

In youth basketball its mainly the WOMEN.... and you can easily tell ALOT of them dont know ish about basketball...

I'll tell you one thing, you better know what the laws are cause you can get arrested in Texas for doing that.

He never called my son a bitch ass coward again believe that. If you think for one minute I'm going to let a racist ref disrespect my child....no sir. My son's honor was defended.

I see what you are saying. There is some truth to it, but generally speaking, I'm in a much better position to see a toe on the line 3 feet in front of me than the parent 12 rows up and 70 feet away screaming that I'm cheating. And at the end of the day, my pay is the same regardless of who wins....I think the whole "ref is cheating" spiel is a bit overrated, however I don't doubt for a second that on some level, it does occur. And I don't have people escorted out because of words, per se. It's WHAT words and the CONTEXT in which they use them.

One word: Inconsistency.

If you are going to call a certain way be consistent the entire game.

So what if he missed it the first time but makes sure he calls it the next time? Do you want consistency or do you want the calls to be correct?

Again...consistency....you defending refs who do a piss poor job but don't want to be confronted by parents. Simple as that. Many parents don't mind their kids playing and losing but parents do have a problem with their kids playing the opposite team and the refs... More importantly many of the refs are paid to see a certain team win. You know this. LOL

I'm not defending anyone. I simply asked you a question. lol So as long as they miss the same calls all game for both teams you're good? Don't correct their mistakes?

I've never been offered payment to make sure a particular team wins nor have I ever heard of anyone taking money to see a team win. With a crew of 5-7 for football and 2-3 for basketball I can't see how it would even be possible

You not part of a "red neck" or "good ole boy" crew...most blacks are not. That's what most of you have missed. You go in to the parking lot and see a big ass Confederate Flag on a ref's vehicle then notice that all of them are white and your school is 99% black and other school is majority white....well....you know how it will go. LOL

This may not be true on the little league level, but the refs making sure a certain team wins on the college or pro level is somewhat true.

From what I am reading and saw during my son's Travel Soccer Days. I am glad my other son is not play sports other than Basketball at the YMCA is good enough. The parents are horrible and the refs at some of these games are deciding the games and not the kids.

Well the law isn't gonna look at it like that. They gonna look at it that you assaulted a ref after a game over a BS call which has a added consequence.

There is no reason for parents to confront officials at kids’ games over calls.

Exactly
