2017 Celebration Bowl TV rating down from last season’s matchup

Is there any reason why the article does not state the most watched bowl game that day with accompanying ratings?

So a decline in ratings and attendance .... Grambling is the only common denominator. The ideal SWAC representative FOR ME moving forward is TxSU, SU, JSU, Alcorn, or any of the Alabama schools since they're super close to ATL

For the MEAC it's Howard, SCSU or FAMU. People are giving NCAT props and I would had they brought closer to 25K but they didn't

The “ideal” representatives were in the game.

Start times played a role, but what is the big deal anyway? The Celebration Bowl more than held its own when all games during that day are considered.

The North Carolina A&T-Grambling State game drew a 1.59 overnight rating on ABC Saturday afternoon.....

The third installment of the bowl season opener, which peaked at 2.3 million viewers, did garner a higher rating than the New Orleans Bowl (0.87), New Mexico Bowl (0.75), the Camellia Bowl (0.73) and the Division II national championship game (0.36) also played on Saturday.

The ideal SWAC representative is the winner of the conference.

Look let's be honest....the game drew some good attention and quite frankly it was a good game that featured some good athletes on both sides of the ball.

Going forward since Duer Sharpe is gone our conference needs to start EARLY promoting this game with the MEAC and SWAC.

Another point that could help the schools would be to push our semesters up a week. For the last two years GSU's graduation was on the Friday prior to the Celebration Bowl. A change should be made for all schools in the conference to start their school year so that graduation is over. This would allow more people to participate as well.

Next, since this is the bowl game specifically for SWAC schools give season ticket holders options to buy early rather than waiting to find out which teams will be there.

WE as a conference must do more.

Aww yea i agree with you but from an financial stand point Southern vs whoever would be ideal. Specifically Southern vs Famu would be ideal to be real about it. Because i myself didnt watch the game.

This years matchup was great. Any HBCU fan would have wanted to tune in! The game featured two heavyweights and it was good to see them go head to head! Who wants to see SU vs FAMU right now, in general. Now for fan attendance in ATL, SU and FAMU would be great but not for overall TV appeal.

JSU and Alcorn graduation is typically the first or second weekend of Dec. I think it was the 2nd weekend of December. In other years, it was the first weekend and our players in 2012 and 2013, had a special graduation with the President and their family and coaches before they headed off to Bham and Texas for the SCG.

Ya'll graduation just late as hell.

I know that ratings are the most important factor but I think for this to be our superbowl, its not too much to expect 30-40K fans yearly. They really need to find a way to appeal to the masses. The ATL classic used to be a hit with HS kids. I think they had a college fair, parade, etc. BUT again, the start time for this game would prohibit most pregame activities. In this case, maybe only a post game concert would work and it's plenty of local artists in ATL.

Grambling is just not a good choice. For ATL, Jackson State, Alcorn, Southern, Alabama State and maybe AAMU or PV would be a good draw.

For the MEAC, only FAMU. A&T at least did better than they did vs Alcorn.
