Grambling’s Fobbs among rumored candidates for vacant Louisiana-Lafayette job

Culturally he's a better fit at Grambling but financially he's a better fit at ULL. If he signs with ULL, he's looking at making over 1 million in less than 5 years of service. Fobbs won't be at Grambling long from what I'm thinking. People are taking notice of his success ... he's a great coach.

I would love for Fobbs to stay, but we understand that this is a business. Grambling is the most attractive HC job in all of HBCU, and top 5 in FCS. If Fobbs goes, we will bring in another beast.

I aint one of them either, from what I've seen on the field at the Bayou Classic and this past Sat. I aint praying for anything. I already know what's being taught to the kids by watching 2 games. If he decides to leave, Kudos, but I know it's night and day with programs of that caliber and dude IMO is still in the night part. Not even close to being in the day with his coaching mind.

The product on the field shows, it comes down to what team has more talent than the rest. This year GSU had 2 kids vs everybody 1 superstar and that's how GSU won. Next year the league should all be balanced out and you'll see the league/teams close in standings Lol

Inasmuch as I want coach Fobbs and staff back so we can exact revenge, I want him to climb the coaching ranks entering the fbs world. That ull venture looks god awfully inviting.

GSU has a damn good coaching staff and if you watched the game you would notice that in the 4th quarter we had 2nd and 3rd offense and defense on the field. Fobbs is a very nice person because any other coach would have left there starters on the field until it was 5 minutes left in the 4th with a score 60-10. Fobbs knew that we would win and took a gamble not to play starters in the 4th.

It seems like you are angry at the entire conference.

Look does the SWAC have some coaching issues....yes. Does Grambling...yes...heck we won and Fobbs was still upset. That's the type of coach the conference needs.

Another point....a school has to be attractive to a coach. Whether you like it or not being the head football coach at Grambling carries more weight than any HBCU football program. You may not like that comment but it is the truth.

I respectfully disagree. But you are entitled to your opinion. I just dont think Fobbs is as advertised he inherited Chester Rogers, Chad Williams, and Verland Hunter etc... Fobbs had Carter thats why they beat us. Carter was the key in the Bayou Classic when he (Carter) went out there whole offense changed. I believe Odums is a better coach then Fobbs.

I totally get what you're saying Bewild, but who's to say that (not necessarily Grambling) there won't be some other excuse, like for example, "we don't have the same players" or "we're a young team". Every year we lose players (eligibility or transfer), and we've each seen some of our greatest have to go. While each of our schools should have the talent (coaching and players) enough to be competitive every season, none of us will ever really be ultra, super competitive at the same time. It will be either the coaching staff has changed or the team has changed. I remember when UAPB was winning in back in 2012; a lot of folks were suggesting it was because "the West is weak this year". I don't think I'll ever understand the logic of some here on the boards. I'm not saying the entire conference won't ever have a year when all 10 of us are at maximum competition, but I will say that it will be a while before we see that happen.

There will always be an excuse.

I have no issues with the conference but I do IMO as a grade for the overall coaching in this conference from what I've seen and I compare it with the details of the games I see on CBS/NBC//ESPN, it's an overall D- just my opinion breh

I really get on ODUM a lot , but I forget SU does not their Full allotment of scholarships due to the NCAA, "thing" this is the second year going into it, they have 2018 2019 to go, and for the fact we are a game away from the SWAC champion says a lot these past few seasons. But I will be expecting a lot after 2019. No excuses etc

When you take any teams QB out the game or star RB any team looks bad. You keep talking about talent but like I said earlier in Fobbs first year he beat Alcorn who beat SU for the SWAC championship and came an inch short of beating SU and going to the ship with a 1 win team that had less talent on the roster after he got there and had no real recruiting class. Unless you are an SEC team or power five than how the hell do you win games without your QB and a rare RB in a conference like ours when you don’t get a lot of 4 and 5 star players. The talent excuse is irrelevant to me because he showed his first year what he can do with what he had and everyone keeps saying he inherited Williams, Rogers, and Hunter but they never say that those guys only won one game before he got there. Those same guys said Fobbs was a great coach and got them on the winning side and changed the program. Other schools have transfers also and they can’t do what Fobbs is doing. We have a red shirt freshman QB and our other running backs are sophomores and you think they are suppose to be as great as 2 star seniors? Of course we aren’t as good without them but if you do it as long as Fobbs has then it’s no excuse. The man is good.

Exactly!! We have no spring or full allotment of scholarships and we beating 98.9% of the teams in conference. Coach Odums is doing a good job.
