Dak Prescott won't participate in anthem protests

"I mean, it's bigger than I think some of us think," Prescott said in an interview with Yahoo Sports, according to SportsDayDFW.com. "It's just important for me to go out there, hand over my heart, represent our country and just be thankful and not take anything I've been given and my freedom for granted."

Even if Prescott was inclined to protest, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear last week that he would prefer his players didn't do so.

"I just feel so strongly that the act of recognizing the flag is a salute to our country and all of the people that have sacrificed so that we can have the liberties we have," Jones said. "I feel very strongly that everyone should save that moment for the recognition of the flag in a positive way, so I like the way the Cowboys do it."

However, Cowboys running back Darren McFadden said last week that Jones hasn't explicitly told players not to protest during the anthem.

Cowboy hater? Moi? Yup.

Wait til he finds out he is colored.

Man please what makes you think he hasn't already he was raised in Louisiana and went to college in Mississippi and his black daddy is in his life leave him alone...none of you will have a damn dime to give him if he lose his job to support Colin!

Personally I am not expecting him to join the protest. Just don't minimalize what Kaepernick is doing and has done. What Kaep did he did for ALL BLACK young men and oppressed people in general. If dak is not going to contribute do not detract from what Kaep had done and is doing. Any Black person (especially Black young men) are capable of being shot for literally nothing. The track record/precedence is established. He has to be smarter and having a white momma I am sure he is smart enough to know what they are doing.

Just say no comment. Oh yeah, isn't Kaepernick's mother white?

Some dont understand that a True Star Athlete has never faced any Racism to their Face, especially if they are Not from the Hoods of America, He has been a Golden Boy since he was 5 years old in Tee Ball. Some for some that dont understand, in thats OK. Kap went to Utah, adopted, by White Parents. So He was always had to face the eyes. Now him not voting is another thing.

But Prescott not Participating is fine with me, actually I would rather them make more of a impact on the front Lines

Unless they are waiting for the season to start, it's pretty much too late now. I am very disappointed in our athletes but they are grown men and they can do what they want, I guess. Front lines? They have one of the biggest stages in the WORLD and if they all took a knee, you would have everyone behind them including NFL sponsors and even most of the white players. But if they dont see the point, who am I to make them? They had the chance of a lifetime and they blew it.

Not Toby-fied you do know his mother was white right, he don't have to pick a side if he don't want too you people get on my nerve, leave him alone you Cowboy Hater!

DCG this boy turned his back on black folks when stated that on his white they are teachers and highly employed while on his black side they have been locked up etc....

Knowing that area very well I know for a fact he has some meth head family members that are white locked up. Also his comments pissed off MANY of his black relatives because they knew better.

After that comment...he is about as much as a uncle Tom as the rest of them. He had adapted to white culture and been accepted because of his status. If he was not known he would be a mixed breed whose mom is considered a ni$$a lover.

lol white america will help him understand his "black side" once he starts losing games and fvcks up consistently, ironically, like they did Kap. :D

In his defense though, he has a right not to be outward in protest. This race of people, we are NOT monolithic. How many of you, us, get on one knee during that nat'l anthem deal bullshit pre-game? For self, I don't know exactly when I started but I always found myself near the concessions area either reading on my phone or talking to someone else as I ignored that thing. Howsinever, when the Negro National Athem was sang, I INSTANTLY found myself back inside the bleacher area and vociferously sang it w/ vigor. :D

His day will come.....it always does (ask OJ) and then he will be running to the Black church/community for support and absolution.

Dak is not stupid.

This guy has been doing the "right" thing and saying the "right" thing up to this point. He's about to make $30 million dollars a year if he can just hold on a couple more years. Why would he jeopardize all he's sacrificed and worked for now? Just before he gets paid? It makes no sense.

Kaepernick took a knee AFTER his big contract. Not before. And doing so has had financial consequences. That's more tolerable when you have several million in the bank. Dak is not in that position and it's unreasonable to expect him to take the same stance at this point in his career.

Actually, it's his prerogative if he ever wants to protest anything by kneeling during the national anthem. A solid argument can be made that's not the appropriate time to do it. It's possible to protest and to support Black causes in many other ways.

I don't have a problem with him not kneeling at this time ... if ever. It's not prudent or wise. To suggest that he's not Black enough or anti-Black is a simplistic and self-serving argument. It sounds good to some Black people, but means nothing.
That was what I said. I do not expect him to support Kaep....just do not hinder him and his efforts. How hard is it to say I have no opinion? No comment?

My wife and I sit. As I told folks Saturday...Kaep and I have an understanding,

I'm with you Herb. Me personally, I'd been in a state of shock if he actually DID protest. And by the way, Colin Kaepernick's biological mother AND his adoptive mother are BOTH Caucasoid. His biological father is Black, his adoptive father is white.

He thinks he is special Bewild....remember now he was 3rd on the depth chart. He caught a break and fell into the right situation with a really good OL and one heel of a RB and some big time receivers. Guys who can make plays even if he screws up.

Let folks be themselves. Geez, if the kid doesn't want to do it that's HIS choice. If it was so easy EVERYONE would do it. Martin Luther Kings, Malcolm X's, Medgar Evers, and Muhammad Ali's don't grow on trees you know. I would much rather have someone doing it out of their own convictions as opposed to someone doing it for fear of what the black community or others would say or think about them.

I agree....my problem is when you offer counter or opposing views to the work being put in by someone esle for the benefit of everyone else. You don't want to put your ass/job on the line? Cool, but don't throw a road block up for the person willing to put their ass/job on the line. Just stay out of the way because if things change he will benefit as well.

Very good, Herb. Precisely.

Yes he did in an under handed way. In his comments he insinuated that Colin is not patriotic. That is the basis for all of the blow back Colin is receiving...folk says he is not patriotic.

+1. I seriously don't understand the programming spell so many black folks are under not to see what is highly visible. Nice response, Herb.

Exactly....unless you are supporting Kaep anything else that is said is undermining the entire reason for him kneeling. The best thing black players who are not kneeling or placing their hands on the shoulders of the ones who are is to shut up.

Under handed how? Explaining why he isn't protesting isn't insinuating that Kap, nor anyone else isn't patriotic for engaging in the demonstration.
