Is it to late to save this generation of black males?

Is it to late to save this generation of black males? What is the solution to stop all this killing and robberies? Every day in Birmingham Alabama there have been at least three to four shootings a day. The population of this city is not even close to 700K and that is including the metropolitan area. It's just August and Jefferson county is almost at 70 murders of black people. Some how we must find a solution. What is it?

I know this will sound like a cliche' or rhetoric but good paying jobs would solve much of this and even though I am against it, re-instituting the draft could help as well. We need jobs that pay well and do not require college educations like we had in the late 70's and 80's. Manufacturing jobs filled that gap really well. This generation (a good number of them anyway) has in their minds that they are not working for minimum wage or working their way up. The manufacturing jobs of the 60's, 70's and 80's allowed people to earn really good wages without having a college education.

Not sure if there's anyway to change this generation but for future generations, it all starts at home. Have to do better at teaching our children values and to work for what they want in life instead of letting people on television and on the streets do our jobs. As men, we have to take charge in our homes and stop running the streets. Parents have got to stop trying so hard to be friends with their child and start training them to do better. Some of the black males of this generation will change while others will remain doing the same things that they have done since they were a child. Long story short, black males have got to open their eyes and change their lifestyle.

Herb that's not happening with the way technology is now.

Also, this generation of children are for choice of better words stupid. It's sad but true. Their minds are on what is on television. They see the Kardashians and other shows as reality. They listen to rapper rapping about Lambos etc....not recognizing that many are rented.

College kids graduate thinking that they are going to immediately have a 6 figure job. I even know law students who feel that way and I know a lot of broke lawyers.

The biggest mistake our people made was not teaching each other the value of a dollar. We don't teach our kids to buy on a budget. We don't teach our kids that labels don't matter.

I look at college now. I majored in Political Science and needed 145 credit hours to graduate....they now require 105. They literally cut out one year. SMH....

All of the above is true. Some of us did teach our children that labels don't matter. Some of us did teach our children the value of a dollar. My son came out of college thinking he was going to get a sports anchor job right off the bat then reality set in. One thing he did not understand was how old the anchors are...once he met them face to face at one of the NABJ conventions and saw these guys and gals have some age on them he realized that straight to the boob tube was not going to happen (and he was unwilling to work small markets first). He knew he HAD to work so he put plan B into effect and the rest is history. He is the #1 CSS rep in the nation for the company he works for.

I don't get it either.

A lot of it starts at home with discipline and structure but a lot of these kids grow up in homes without either.

The whole turn up, reality show, thot, ratchet lifestyle is being pushed at these kids 24/7.

Throw in drugs, peer pressure, and racism without any family support or covering and its a lot for these kids to wrap their arms around.

If we are not careful we will be listed as the throw away race/class of people.

Universities and colleges reduce credit hours to attract young people into certain majors. It's sad, but a lot of American kids want degrees overnight, which is why a lot of them are attractive to online programs. Basically, schools are graduating individuals with very little innovative skills. It's evident in a few BMW's commercials, when they say, "engineered in Germany, built in the USA." Herbert is right, America is slowly becoming a country where its people rather work high paying manufacturing jobs, while individuals from other country are the brains of the operations. It would be nice if the country could produce more innovative people who could create more high paying manufacturing jobs.

Say that again brother...

yeah its too late to save the whole generation. At this point, we just need to encourage and mentor those who want to do the right thing instead of wasting resources trying to reform those who have chosen that lifestyle.

Storm the saddest thing ever is when I see guys in prison who want to do better more than guys who are not. I am blessed to be one of the few guys with a felony who freely walk a prison and interact with inmates. Many of them stated that they wish they had some form of support structure to achieve a goal. When they say support structure they mean a positive support structure. I counter them by asking about their education, coaches, etc....

What's even worse is that I find that inmates are more willing to receptive to advice that some of the kids who are not..

Yeah...but those jobs are gone for good. Doesn't matter what trumpanzee is promising...manufacturing will be conducted by ROBOTS with those controlling those robots having computer science field degrees. Got to reimage life....cause we are NOT going backwards...

Stats say ~26% of Blacks in America live in poverty....1/4 and income equality is a factor BUT CHOICES, again, have a lot to do with that...

I mentor. I talk. I try to live a certain way so they can dream beyond their station. I take kids places. I show them unique and enriching experiences. Some get it and now are doing better than they ever thought. Some don't and you have to make sure you got a locking gas cap cause they stealing all the gas in the neighborhood to ride around in a broke down hoopty and drink 40s all day....

I don't have the answers, but I'm damn sure willing to partner with someone to see what combining our acumens can do to reverse these current trends....In the end...black men must save the black boys...that who they HEAR...

I wanted to "like" your post until you said that ^^^^^^. These remedial simple mf'ers do not want to listen to black men who possess wisdom, moxie, are astute, intelligent, hard-working, having strong blue-collar work ethic, morality, et al.

I'm @ a point now where I've gone mute and try my damnest to keep a physical distance between them and me. If they cannot stop their negative movements to simply listen, why in sans hell should I continue to speak towards the wind? I'd get better results speaking to an oak tree. At least it's idle long enough to listen.

Never know Bewild...some of that wisdom may attach to them in passing. They may act like they ain't listening but they are and when that circumstance slaps them in the face they will think about you....hopefully and try it your way.

Herb, these mf'ers piss me the hell off because they simply are not willing to listen. Damned the doing part; all I and others are asking is that they simply listen. WTF is wrong w/ listening to someone who could actually possess a key that could potentially unlock a door to success for you? All of us listened. Hence why we are here today where we are. The ability to listen hasn't changed, I would think.

This is bad for my blood pressure even discussing this. 2 weeks ago, I had 1 maternal cousin and his first-cousin murdered by 3 teenage boys (15, 17, and 18) and a 30 yr old was in that mixx (Tamina, tx). WTF is a damned 30 yr old doing dealing w/ a f'ing 15 yr old as they plan to rob 2 early 20-year old dudes because they thought they had "drugs and money on them." Pisses me to the highest level of pissitivity when I think on this and other stupid bullshat. For this little community in redneckville, 4 differing murders of early 20 yr olds that I've spoken w/ @ length about righting their life @ the hands of other young black males. The fvck!?

Yeah...I know where Tamina is.....sorry for your loss.

They didn't kill kinfolk's 3 year old but she stayed and slept next to her dead daddy the entire night until both he and his cousin were found the next morning. Little kinfolk had blood all on her clothes from hugging kinfolk's head/face all night. (he was shot in the head) Pisses me, Herb. That "culture" those 3 teens + 30 yr old exhibited is more NORM than abnormal around here. I don't know WTF changed but a lot has since I returned to this rank area. And they start that stupidity very young.

Because those kids latched on to that person. A lot of these boys will latch on to an older person if they listen to what they are saying. And especially if there are no males in the household that they stay in who are worth a crap.

A lot of those boys will listen however it's MOMMA who takes issue with what is said or who is saying it. Take the ratchet MOMMA out of the picture and these boys will listen. You want to save boys get them away from these worthless mothers who only have them for checks. Get them out of these neighborhoods and around the right folks-you see improvement. If that means forming all black male schools in the middle of South Dakota so be it.

IMO, it has always been a conspiracy to reduce the population of older, mature and knowledgeable Black men in society. If they can figure this out about animals in nature, I'm sure they can see the similar natural social order between humans and animals.

Below is a 60 Minutes CBS documentary link about the natural social order of elephants. In short, the documentary is about how they decided reduce the elephant population in a particular part of Africa that couldn't support the large number of elephants anymore. In doing so, they killed the older elephants and relocate the younger elephants to another part of Africa. The relocated younger elephants grew up as problematic teenagers that became killer elephants. They would kill rhinos just because they could. So in order to make the teenage elephants to behave better, they actually transplanted a few older male elephant into the herd. It's not an easy task transporting large wild adult bull elephants.
