It's time that FAMU step up to the plate. Their location is prime for a transition into the SWAC East. The can still play one "MONEY" game and get in on their annual rivalry game against BCU. TnSU needs to come on in as well. The OVC experience is not going to yield them a Black College National Championship, real or mythical.

If the rationale is so that they can fly to conference games I fully understand...plus he is riding with them for morale.
This shouldn't have even been a story...the same article has essentially been printed in previous years whenever they find out the team is bussing somewhere(Miami last year and Tennessee State a few years ago). Usually the team flies to conference games...especially when you consider that we play in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and Washington D.C.
The beat writer needs to stop writing this same article and start telling us what's going on the fall camp...new coaches, transfers, special teams and team depth.

My biggest issue is playing the game the next day. We know the chances of them winning are slim anyway but as Alcorn showed last year, you have to play nearly error free football just to compete for a half and they did (I think was only down 17 in the 3rd quarter). FAMU is not as good as Alcorn now so they really don't need any more disadvantages. Leave out on Tuesday. Spend that extra 3-4 Gs on hotel rooms (it's a mid week game so it won't break you) and let them get their legs back on Wednesday.

As the AD said, Bilas is clearly doing this only reading the headlines not knowingly almost all of us do this (I imagine we aren't driving to Fargo but not sure about Charleston Southern)

I think they are staying in the OVC as well (they love being a part time HBCU) but if they came they would instantly have one more rival (JSU) than they have in the OVC with the potential for 2-3 more (AAMU, ASU, UAPB). Those schools along with Valley, Grambling and Alcorn are all under 10 hours from Nashville.

Langston to Alabama St. is about the same distance as FAMU and Fayetteville.
Bama St is a stretch for those of us in west, Found (sTu & PVAMU). W/ Langston once being a member of the SWAC, there is traction w/ history for them to return, imho. They would be regionally friendlier for those of us who are westward.

They won't. What folk don't realize in this round of college expansion is that football is driving the horse and the potential for new membership is squarely based on how much money would the addition make for conference members. Now familiarity with other schools (old conference rivalries, etc.) fall behind those two.
Now, FAMU and Tennessee State fit those criteria because that's the best-case scenario. Folks act like we all have to play our games home-and-home. Shit, we don't play all conference games home-and-home nowadays. That's why we have to have a plan to maximize our product to the masses and get paper through some selective neutral-site games.
@Bewildered The SWAC needs 12-plus members in order to allow divisional play to truly work and to truly drive down travel costs. Adding Langston would mean the SWAC has to add a member to the East side for balance.

Bilas is an elitist, he does not care a bit about FAMU's kids or program. He just wants to be the voice supporting the kids and condemning the NCAA. FAMU is doing what they have to do to make it financially. Their kids will be OK, hopefully at least a little of the money will benefit their program directly. That is the world of most FCS/low D-I athletic programs. Bilas knows nothing about it and did no research. If it bothers him so much donate some money to the FAMU athletic department.
