Actually, Black people got behind O.J. due to the murder of Latasha Harlin by a Korean woman, which was caught on video tape. By the justice system allowing the Korean woman to basically go free, we figured it should do the same for O.J. Also, the acquittal of the four LAPD police officers beating the crap out of Rodney King wasn't that long ago. There was visual evidence via VHS video tapes of the Latasha Harlin killing and the Rodney King beating, whereas the only evidence in the O.J. case was a few bloody clothes and the testimony of some racist cop (Mark Fuhrman). Black people were really pulling for racial justice and not O.J., which is why not many of us wasn't that surprised when his dumb ass got in trouble the second time. IMO, the O.J. case was Black people's way of getting even. Like the old saying goes, "two wrongs don't make it right, but it damn sure make us even." One thing these cases did prove is that this country's justice system is not blind and has always been corrupted. This is why I'm such an advocate for adding science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in Law Schools curriculum. The way things are now, one can actually become a good successful lawyer on lies and crooked deals.

Yep! I know the background of why "we" (black folks) got behind getting victory in this case. That was due in large part to Johnny Cochran (who OJ initially objected to bringing on the legal team). Cochran drove that narrative not OJ.

Also, as I explained to m co-workers, black people were also happy because a black utilized his money to aide in an acquittal just like the white men have done for years. There are white men who we know for a fact committed the crimes but were acquitted. Moreover, many blacks ere happy to see Johnnie Cockran on television as the lead litigator.

During the O.J. trial, racism just poured out of the media. They tried their best to portray Nicole as some White angel who was murdered by some sinister Black man. Before then, O.J. was more like them, but once he was arrested, they found a way to turn him into a Black monster, as shown in the TIME magazine cover below. At that time, hardly anyone knew anything about Photoshop.
Also, White people tried their best to rationalize why the cops had to beat Rodney King. During that trial, the defense attorney for the police officers did a frame by frame of the beating for jury, proclaiming that most of the blows to Rodney King's head were actually misses. It would seen like the prosecuting attorney would have used Rodney King himself as evidence of those proclaimed misses, but maybe he knew it would have been a waste of time, since the trial was moved to Ventura County, which is a Los Angeles suburban county with a large percentage of police officers that lived there. When a person has broken bones, a swollen face, and one eye that is completely blood shot red from broken blood vessels, that's proof enough of those hard hitting misses. The crap White folks were saying at that time had become completely comical.

Also, that was the first time I had heard of a taser. My fraternity brother who was/is a LAPD detective pointed out to me how they tactfully tased and beaten Rodney King at the same time. In order to not tase the police officers that were doing the beating, Stacey Koon who was the Sergeant in-charge was calling out commands. He was the one with the taser. He would let the other police officers know when he was about to tase so that they didn't accidentally get tase themselves. Every time they tased Rodney King, it made it appeared that he was lunging forward, which the defense attorney proclaimed that he was trying to attack the police officers. That whole trial was pure comical. From the video below, one can see the taser wire being retracted.

The media also branded it the trial of the century but you had likes Dalmer, McVay, Manson, Holmes, Roof etc...
This moniker was given to the trial of a black man who alledgly killed 2 white people but these other white men killed and slaughtered numerous people but their trials were never sensationalized like the OJ case.

a rich, notable, household name, of a black man. That was the difference. I told a friend of mine that there is something called ridiculous news and she responded that there is no such thing as bad news. I call that bullshit. The media can skew a narrative to fit it as it so sees fit.
For example Donald Trumps battle with the media...if he was a descent man I would agree with him with media. Yet, the person delivering the message is a pure idiot so why listen to him.
