Bobby Bowden: Boys without fathers wear earrings to be like their mommas

Is it?

What does it say about the perception that our women are masculine and our men are effeminate? It's easy to look in our culture and find examples of both being true.

If he could spend so much time around young black men - in their homes recruiting them, interacting with their mothers, coaching them -and hold those ideas, what does that say about how other non-black people in America and around the world see us?

Sure, there is ignorance and misperception out there, but to what extent are we responsible for shaping our identity?

Do we simply chalk this up to him being old and ignorant, or is there something deeper here?

The problem with Bowden and others who make similar statements is that they imply the dangerous narrative that black fathers don't exist or aren't involved in the lives of their children, though every measurable says otherwise.

Because objecting to him presenting disturbing narratives about black people and presenting them as truths is throwing a hissy fit.

Did you hear him specifically say BLACK PEOPLE or people in general??? Where are you getting these disturbing narratives that he is presenting about Black people???

When have you ever heard discussions like this regarding white fatherhood as it relates to young white men and boys?

But you are still putting words in the mouth. Maybe you should ask him if he were specifically referring to Black males.

Now you want to be conveniently dense all of a sudden.

Dense??? And you said the man was creating a dangerous narrative about black fathers. Since I'm so dense, please enlighten me on when he said that.

kendrick, I was damned near borderline offering you membership in our esteemed and exclusive fraternity of Gamma Rho Chi where our motto is: A Real Man Takes No Shit From a Woman; but, He Will Take Pu&&y From A Hoe. :D :D :D #true1985

But you done let a brotha' down w/ all this foolishness of not acknowledging that these manly females are making these little girl-boys very effeminate. :(

Really? We need more Bobby Bowden's. His ex players love that dude. Hell even players like Michael Irvin who played against him and was recruited by him say he was as genuine as they come. Bobby is saying what a lot of folks are thinking but scared to say. He aint lying about what he said.

We sure do and not these fake father figures like Nick Saban.

When I heard some of the quotes he said live, I was like "there's no way they would come after him". A couple of hours later, Bobby Bowden was trending on Twitter lol

Bobby Bowden is an 87 year old hardcore southern Christian (notice I didn't say conservative). He simply don't GAF lol he will say what he wants and doesn't care about the backlash

Ain't nobody got time for that Trumpian foolishness Bobby Bowden saying.

He's just of another era. I remember when it was taboo for dudes to pierce both ears. Now its common. When I was at PV, Dr. Frazier did not allow men to wear earrings in his class. They had to cover them up with tape or something.
Band members know not to enter our band room with those earrings on.

But didn't pirates wear earrings back in the day? You know, Long John Silver, Blackbeard and nem. I mean, I would never wear an earring myself, but the practice is nothing new. In time it will fade away like all other fads.
