SMH at Alcorn State and Texas Southern ADs

With the new 7-game scheduling format going into effect next season, I've just learned that both of your ADs have already screwed up the process by scheduling each other to play non-conference games that will NOT count for conference games.

What the hell were Derek Horne and Charles McClelland thinking?

Understanding that the ultimate goal is getting to the SCG and earning a spot in the CB, but why the hell would you those ADs put a nail in their own coffins (before the season starts) by scheduling a game like this when there are so many other FCS/FBS opponents out there?

Only one team from each division can make the SCG, but what happens if your season is still a good one with an opportunity to play in the playoffs? Now you've given the selection committee the perfect excuse not to give you a bid because of your non-conference schedule.

I might have understood if this was last minute but you've known for over a year about the schedule and couldn't find anyone. And it's a home and home deal....DAM What's going on over there @Cleb
 
They just couldn't separate the two bands. That band battle is WAY more important. LMAO!!!!

Other than being pure lazy, I don't see no other reason why they are so determine to play each other. When have you heard of Alcorn and TSU being a big conference rivalry like SU/JSU or Grambling/PVU??? Maybe they see a big conference rivalry in football between the two in the future.

I brought this up in October when this was announced. This pretty much makes it OK for those that were complaining about schools rolling off their schedule and losing money games.
 
this is why there needs to be a 250k penalty if you schedule a conference member for a nonconference game. 250 apiece please.

Will the conference release the 2017 football schedule for each school anytime soon?

I agree 110%. The conference will never grow as a whole and get the respect it deserves if all AD's aren't scheduling other FCS non conference opponents excluding the Meac.
 
I just don't understand why the league doesn't set schedule's for 5 years out (randomize) and then the schools just make their OOC games...they have software that can do that in a day. And OOC games are not that hard.
 
Just got a call about this thread so let me respond:


* Our AD does not believe in the seven game mandate. He's tried it before and it didn't work.

* We can not schedule FBS programs until 2018 due to NCAA restrictions on our program.

* Our out of conference games are complete up to 2021 with the exception of 3 games we are working to complete now.

* Our goal is to win a SWAC and Celebration Bowl Championship. Our goal is NOT to compete in the NCAA FCS playoffs. The SWAC is winless in them. Furthermore, NC A&T made it public they preferred the Celebration Bowl over the playoffs.

* We have HBU, Kennesaw State and Incarnate Word coming up as our non-conference schedule.

* We will no longer play Div. II or NAIA programs. We are beyond those type of games like Virginia Lynchburg. Our schedule is built to benefit Texas Southern.
