Why the Celebration Bowl is hoping Grambling wins Bayou Classic, SWAC Championship

The SWAC office confirmed this scenario in an email sent to HBCU Sports in October. “If Southern wins the west, they can still compete for in the SCG,” then SWAC Director of Communications Jasher Cox wrote. “If by chance they win the championship game, the eastern division winner will advance to the Celebration Bowl.”

-------------------------

The SWAC office needs to review the above policy. If you are not eligible for NCAA post season play then you should not be eligible to play in the SWAC Championship.

ALSO SOUTHERN: GET YOUR ATHLETIC OFFICE RIGHT

I knew this was coming soon. The storyline would be very negative towards Alcorn due to their record and the SWAC as a conference. No po Grambling @JROCK, Fobbs will have the G-Men ready.

And to think, most Eastern Conference schools still had a chance to play in December about 2 weeks ago.

If I didn't know any better Kenn I'd think you were backdoor begging the SWAC office for help. *snicker*

As long as they have butts in the seats what does it matter whose going? It would be a great win for our 4th place team to defeat the meac 1st place team.

Think that's the reason why most (outside of SU) hope Grambling wins. Jay Walker would have a field day during the SCG mentioning how SU is ineligible during the game if Alcorn won. The game would be good with the revenge factor like last year with Alcorn/SU but for a lot of us it would be shameful

Extremely shameful. Imagine what would be said on ESPN during the Celebration as to why Alcorn is there.

Hell, it is what it is! Where was this rhetorical thinking when Alcorn beat both SU and JSU when they had they the better record? You can have the game with whoever. They better hope the fans show up regardless.

Perhaps Grambling's Athletic Department can give their football team a Picnic after the season to get their spirits up.

They are to prideful to see it lmao

When ESPN Events constructed the blueprint of an HBCU bowl game in the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl, the goal was to create a nationally televised sporting event that would feature the two champions from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

Two Champions played last year and now you are discounting Alcorn?

Despite winning the SWAC East division outright, Alcorn State will be the first team to compete for a conference championship with an overall non-winning record since the SWAC Championship Game began in 1999?
