SU faithfuls have been skirting around this question all day. An answer is warranted. If the kid wasn't offered a scholarship at SU, this thread "has to stop!"
I agree that SU should have been his first choice, but if he wasn't offered...................

BLuedog, I agree with you. More kids should be willing to play for HBCUs. Especially the progeny of past players. BUT. If the school didn't offer him, you are stacking the deck against yourself. I don't know how his parents raised him. I don't the values that were instilled. BUT an offer was a step in the right direction. If your blind allegiance won't allow you to see that, then onward to accusing me of being wishy-washy. By the way I support Kap.

I think it is harder to sell your kid to our schools if you stay far away from them and don't spend time around them enough. Whether they are an athlete or not. You got to expose them.

I remember hearing stories about Southern and Grambling having a game in California in the 70s every year back in the day. What happened to that?

This man was a walk-on at Southern. Later he earned a scholarship which put him on the path to the HOF. I'm sure he could have easily earned a spot on LSU's bench as a walk-on. I doubt if he would have made it as far as a pro-football player after LSU. Plus, that Gold jacket goes nice with that Columbia Blue tie.

This is like Master P's son playing basketball at USC or P. Diddy's son playing football at UCLA. Neither were good athletes. The only reason why they made the team was due to their famous fathers and their generous donations to USC and UCLA. We still have a lot of Chicken George Ninjas who have fat pockets. LOL!!!

I know Grambing played Alcorn in Los Angeles in 89 and Southern played Howard in Los Angeles in 90.

S.U. played I think 3 games against CA. teams in the 70s and in 48 played in the 1st integrated game in CA among HBCU(s).

That was a good strategy to get athletes to Southern. I remember when I was at Southern we had a lot of athletes from California.

Yes it is/was, but it probably has more to do with the migration of Blacks from Louisiana to California. Majority of Black people living in California have Louisiana ties, which is why both Southern and Grambling have large Alumni Chapters in California. My great great aunt was one of the four founding members of Southern University Alumni-Los Angeles Chapter. There will always be large number of students from California at Southern and Grambling.

Help me understand what it is that you all seem to be missing that NOBODY offered him a scholarship and why you all think an hbcu should pass on a player that has earn one to wasted on ANY PLAYER that hasn't earn an athletic scholarship.

BTW you know who else didn't get a scholarship from Southern?

Some of us simply wanted to ignore the painfully obvious and that is some of us would rather send our children to seat their butts on the bench KNOWING full well they aren't going to break a sweat unless the score is 90-0 just to say they played ( I use that term lightly ) for them and spend three times as much doing so rather than try to reinvest in what help you to be able to do that because some how you got so screwed up in the head you think the University owes you something for educating you. That's simply some serious self loathing going on
