Charlie Strong on hot seat?

First came the loss to Cal in Week 3, which renewed the rumblings. Following an embarrassing loss to Oklahoma State this weekend in which both the defense and special teams imploded, the calls grew louder and the heat under his seat grew warmer. For the defensive-minded Strong — and the administration — the crumbling on that side of the ball is especially troubling as the Longhorns have given up an average of nearly 50 points per game (48.7) this season to Power Five teams.

Following the game, UT athletic director Mike Perrin was asked about Strong’s future. Not surprisingly, it’s not exactly rock solid.

I grabbed Texas AD Mike Perrin and asked about Charlie Strong’s future. He told me “We need to evaluate what happened here.”

Texas just flat out can't defend. That's their problem. Oklahoma State has a solid offense, but it looked way too easy for them at times.

That's saying a lot considering Strong is a defensive guru.

They can't stop anyone. And really, looking at it now, their one decent win so far against Notre Dame doesn't look so great either since they suck this year. They''ll likely lose to Oklahoma, probably Baylor and TCU. Texas Tech and WVU aren't a given at this point either. If he wins 7 or less games it may be a wrap. 6 or less he's gone.

His only saving grace is that no one in the Big 12 plays solid defense. Just look at TCU, Gary Patterson is a defensive guy and not too long ago they boasted one of the top defenses in the country, now they're in the position of having to score 50+ to win games.

It seems like money determines the success as UT and TCU paid more to get good OC's and it works...defense is not as easy unless you got John Chavis, Nick Saban talent

Strong isn't getting fired this season.. Before Sterlin Gilbert took the job he told them he wouldn't come if Strong wasn't guaranteed two years so he will be there next season.. Now the defensive staff on the other hand are the people who will be gone..I feel if They don't pick it up we may see Strong and Perrin on the plane to get a top DC who can stop Big 12 offenses

I really just feel their youth is showing,. After the ND win everyone forgot these kids are Sophomores an Freshman.. Gotta take your lumps now, and it'll pay off in the long run...

No excuse for those missed tackles tho,Freshman or not, you have to tackle to stop those big plays they're giving up

True, but it's different when everyone around you is a freshman.. The freshman at Alabama are surrounded by top Junior and Senior draft picks, which makes it a whole lot easier, while at Texas your surrounded by Highschool 5* an 4* freshman an Sophomores Lol...Big Difference

You're right that nobody in the Big 12 can play defense, but at Texas, you can't lose.

If they're without their top two running backs next week against Oklahoma, the Sooners have the talent to put a 50-piece on them and the Longhorns won't be able to keep up.

Boosters don't give a damn about any of this and if they start holding out because they want strong gone, strong is gone. Also,he's had 3 years and his defense has gotten progressively worse since he got there. You can't use that excuse at a school like Texas.

I hate to see this happen to frat but you are right. When the boosters come out and say that they weren't in favor of Strong, he would have to be in the Final Four to save his butt. Since it appears they might win only 6-8 games this year, he's gone. Strong is perfect for a school like Louisville much like Petrino is. A P5 school that is not on the level of FSU or Clemson but will have them at 10 wins a year and competing for a conference title while tapping into Florida. Strong can't tell those Texas boosters to go f themselves like Saban does at Alabama

(The SWAC version of this is happening at Valley)

Tom Herman your phone is about to ring!

LOL...Strong and Gilbert BOTH will be headed down 290 if Texas loses this weekend. Strong is running out of excuses.

I mean think about it, they fired Mack Brown for winning 8 games. Anyone that really thinks they're about to keep giving dude chances is crazy lol

I do think Texas will beat Oklahoma. Strong will be safe until the play TCU. I Texas might upset Baylor this year in another job saving week.

Baylor isn't the same Baylor after the sexual assault scandal took the wind from their sails.

I never thought it was a good move for him. He was already at a P5 school doing well.

Now, look at that P5 school and look at him....

Bottom Line, , HE was on the hot seat when he got there...Thoes white tycons at Texas didn't want to see a black man leading probably the most powerful College team in the nation..
if this was a white coach I doubt with a young team and 2-2 record with a chance to win conference with Fresh and sophomores your hearing this,,.
Then to make matters worst, you have A white coach 100miles away making Houston look unbeatable

If I am not mistaken, Strong's record his last two years at Louisville was good. How many of Strong's recruits are currently playing at Louisville?

John Blake had the same situation at Oklahoma. Program was at rock bottom, he came in an recruited well. He was fired and Bob Stoops won a championship with his players. Bob has not been able to win another championship.
