Grambling State Paid $575,000 for the Arizona Game

And that's where Bighead is wrong. "We" (HBCUs) are not dependent on money games. I've already provided examples which proves that theory to be wrong. Money games are simply ONE way in which EVERY FCS and FBS (mid-major) program uses to generate revenue. It is not the ONLY way.

Its amazing how folks will agree that college athletics is a business, in which the ultimate goal is to generate revenue, but then take issue with one method that helps that program towards profitability.

No smack; very interested in your response...........Question(s):

Do you believe/think our HBCUs would have the money in each of their budgets without these types of games? (basketball and football).

If "we" (HBCUs) are not dependent on "money" games, and since the majority of our alum aren't putting millions of dollars back into our schools, let alone our athletics, what/who exactly are we depending to generate revenue for our athletics?

That answers a number of questions.

I tell you what

I bet I can take 10k and make another 10k in an x amount of time

I bet I won't be signing up my school to play any money games year after year

I know how money works, alot of black ppl don't

You own a business

I am a business

OK. It's all starting to make sense now.

Bighead. Do you own a business?

The students and general operating budgets of the schools.

Most HBCU budgets are over $6M up to $15M. That $350-900K helps but it isn't the be all - end all for the schools' budgets.

Again, no smack

So, our students and our general operating budgets allow our athletics to be fully operational without "money" games? In essence, we don't have to depend/schedule (yearly) on "money" games because of our students and general operating budgets?

And no, I don't own a business. Money/financial matters are foreign and too complicated to me (probably why I'm as poor as a church mouse). I'm not at all well-versed or savvy when it comes to business stuff.

Don't just look at what revenues are received from a couple of games, look at what the football program generates from an entire season for the entire athletic budget.

"Slanging" cannot be included in this convo, BH lol. J/K lol.

Why is it that we compare ourselves to BCS schools with coaching salaries that are our entire budget?

Because most of the methods and things FBS Schools do today...They STOLE and COPIED from HBCUs.
Question: How much do you think Grambling and Southern would make if the Bayou Classic rotated between Robinson and Mumford yearly like PV vs. TX Southern and Alcorn vs. JSU.

And don't come with no broad answer either. Give me a Number estimate.

If Southern came and played Grambling in Robinson, Grambling could charge for tickets, parking food and concession, game catalogs, merchandise, etc. I mean, it's common sense.

You don't see Ohio State and Michigan playing on some neutral field. Ole Miss and Miss State don't either. IJS.

I see no one wants to touch this question. Good, just like the detractors of Kaepernick you all always tell me what I already know and confirm it.

Please preach. Because track, golf, tennis, softball, volleyball and other small sports relies on revenues generated from football.

Ahhh....so the Money is not just put into the Football program. Again, you all can lie to the masses but I'm not stupid. I already knew you all did that.

Do you know how much money our schools could save if we cut some sports and instituted swimming in the SWAC? Once you pay off the cost of installing the pool, you good with maintenance costs, etc. You all do realize the Olympics have numerous swimming events right? And swimming satisfies IX as well.

Student fees specifically. And the money provided to athletics by the University (from its general operating budget). nd if you are Southern and Grambling... money from ticket sales and licensing/sponsorships.

Let me guess.... Howard has swimming?

Man if the Bayou Classic was moved to a home and home it would make NO MONEY!!!!! WTH is there to do in Grambling or Lincoln Parish after the game?

Dude have you been to Grambling on Friday night in the last 5 years?????? There are times on Fridays that you would think school is out because the campus closes at 11:30. Many kids go home.

See with GSU and SU it's a cultural thing. My family uses it as a week long vacation because I have about 7 or 8 cousins that went to SU and bout 10 that went to GSU. We are there on Tuesday - Monday.

Ok we will move the Bayou Classic to Washington, DC.

I was/am looking what the revenue football (and basketball) programs generate from an entire season.

And, in your opinion, what does football rely on for generated revenue? Do ticket sales for Alcorn athletics have a great impact on the overall athletic budget? Does Alcorn have licensing sponsorships for their athletics? Corporate sponsorships for their athletics?

Good examples.

In your opinion, speaking for Southern, student fees, money from the University from it's operational budget, ticket sales and licensing/sponsorships all are enough/adequate revenue for SU athletics without the "money" games?

And for the record, I've always liked how Southern has loyal and enthusiastic boosters that pour into their athletics, particularly football.

96, does this help to put somethings in prospective?

"The benefits to Prairie View are significant. The university made more money off Saturday’s game than it made off all ticket revenue generated by all sports during the 2014-15 school year, according to the school’s most recent NCAA financial report. The revenue will probably be enough to pay all the combined expenses of the women’s golf team and volleyball team this year, if spending for those teams is similar to that year."

This line of thinking is why we as HBCUs cannot thrive. You down your own community and neighborhood before even comparing it to the FBS. Again, go back to the Scott Cochran video I love to post.

SU vs. GSU is a cultural thing...an HBCU Cultural thing. You don't need New Orleans for the HBCU Culture.

I know the truth and hope more of you HBCU Alums and supporters really, really start to crunch how these money game checks are being used from a micro-managing standpoint.

So you're telling me that if SU came to Grambling and played a football game, Grambling wouldn't make profit? Revenue and Profit are two different things.
