Grambling State Paid $575,000 for the Arizona Game

Question: How much do you think Grambling and Southern would make if the Bayou Classic rotated between Robinson and Mumford yearly like PV vs. TX Southern and Alcorn vs. JSU.

And don't come with no broad answer either. Give me a Number estimate.

If Southern came and played Grambling in Robinson, Grambling could charge for tickets, parking food and concession, game catalogs, merchandise, etc. I mean, it's common sense.

You don't see Ohio State and Michigan playing on some neutral field. Ole Miss and Miss State don't either. IJS.

Why is it that we compare ourselves to BCS schools with coaching salaries that are our entire budget?

Because most of the methods and things FBS Schools do today...They STOLE and COPIED from HBCUs.

It's the "american" way, brah. Cannot originate so steal, patent it, own it, and then give it to the masses marketed as the latest/greatest thing that was created... by them.

The heads at these institutions have to come and form some ideas. We can't keep doing this method, hell we will be doing this until our grandkids kids enroll at our schools.

I can't purpose anything without looking at the books/budget, but those that can see the books should at least try and come up with alternate ways. .........
...............
That day will come when these schools stop playing us, then what???

It's as if we are looking for these games because we have become set on this method is what I am saying. How and what would make me say this...Well we are scheduling these type of games ahead (2018) and we are in year 2016, that means we are not thinking of ways to try and not play these games.
All this does is make the board/AD or whoever that's pulling the trigger on these games, "lazy". Dude you have 2 years to try and come up ways to pump out 500,000, you mean to tell me a program like SU can't pull in 500k within 2 years? No one can come up with ideas or other 'money games' to produce 500k, even it the idea or game will garnish 200k, you still winning, but again, it's all about "wanting" to get from under the hand/stop playing these games.

I won't even pretend I know the fiscal legalities behind athletics, and while I understand the reason behind these "money" games, I wholeheartedly hate we (HBCUs) have resorted to this. I can't speak for any HBCU but I will say this about my beloved UAPB: right now, we have a current, inept, incompetent AD who lacks the skill, sense, and wit it'd take to helm an elementary school gym program. Speaking strictly about our AD, Bighead is right on point in saying this has made him lazy! He's been at UAPB for almost 4 years, and he's just now coming up with a program to raise money for scholarships, and even still, Coach Coleman was the mastermind behind that project! Prayerfully, when his (Lonza Hardy) contract is up, we'll hire someone who knows all the academic, athletic, and economic legalities required as an AD, and will be clever and skillful (and moral) at generating revenue.

Bighead also raises a very good point in suggesting that if we can schedule years in advance on securing money, we can also show ingenuity and innovativeness in raising money for our programs. I recall when I first joined the Forums how folks would dog and demean another school for raising monies for athletics through various fundraisers. We'd call each other poor, broke, raggedy (even though we're all just about in the same pot), but yet these schools raised their own monies for their own program(s).

Just like our schools have a contingency plan (or at least should), perhaps we (HBCUs) do need to develop a contingency "athletic" plan. Perhaps we should start thinking "What if the pwi's stop playing us?". What if the NCAA puts a policy in place to stop these games? Then what?

Whether we want to admit it or not, it's definitely something to think about.

I'd like to say that my post ^^^^^^ was no slight toward Grambling. I admit I'm conflicted; I'm glad Grambling gave Arizona a run for their money; I'm glad Grambling simply didn't lay down or roll over but earned that payout. I'm glad Southern had ULM scared to death of a victory over them. I'm glad to see PVAMU, a former slave plantation, have "Dwight Man" turn around and put his money back into their academic & athletic programs. I had to put aside my pride when Arkansas-Fayettville dontated their surplus of shoes to my Golden Lions (some of my boys didn't even have practice shoes). But it hurts because right now it looks like it's a dependency.

I can't speak for anyone else on here, but the point I have been stressing (for some time now) and will continue to stress, is why does it have to be one or the other? Why can't we have it both ways? Why can't we continue to strive to do whatever is necessary for OUR programs by doing whatever necessary to accomplish whatever those goals might be?

I too see the logic and sense behind doing it both ways. Doing whatever is necessary, however, involves hard work from our ADs in, not just solely relying on another school to play a large part in fixing our problems. My posts were in agreement with Bighead when he suggested we've become too dependent on these "money" games, and how some of our ADs have gotten too lazy and creative to generate revenue for our athletic programs.

And that's where Bighead is wrong. "We" (HBCUs) are not dependent on money games. I've already provided examples which proves that theory to be wrong. Money games are simply ONE way in which EVERY FCS and FBS (mid-major) program uses to generate revenue. It is not the ONLY way.

Its amazing how folks will agree that college athletics is a business, in which the ultimate goal is to generate revenue, but then take issue with one method that helps that program towards profitability.

Believe me if y'all hadn't taken those shoes, UCA or UA-M or some other smaller Arkansas school would have gladly taken them with pride.

Let's not even discuss basketball. There was a time that I think it was UAPB who did not have not one home game prior to conference play in basketball. This is not a slight to UAPB because GSU does the same.

I don't know about UAPB, but I believe Valley did something similar. I think they generated something like $800,000 in one season playing nothing but road trips before the conference schedule kicked it.

Good point.

Yea it may have been Valley. They did it on a bus at that.

1. How many alumni and supporters do you know give back to SU? (I'll wait) So those schools like Northwestern State, what if I told you, that their alumni don't give back as well, Would you believe me? Of course not because to me, based off your previous post you make a statement/an opinion about alumni and supporters at HBCU schools that don't give without knowing if they do or don't. All those other schools you've name SFA, SLU their alumni give back huh? if so, why do they play those games then?

2. I couldn't care less what those other schools are doing, "we" HBCUs should want to do better instead of following others, again I ask YOU, what will happened when these schools stop p(l)aying us to play them??? They day will eventually come, and then what?????

3. These kids look forward playing against these schools...Kool, good for them, no harm, again, when watching these games, the game is so green, you can call plays. Nothing is shown, the team that they are playing only stick to 9-15 plays when playing against us. Our coaches don't gain anything, if they do, it doesn't show in the season after these games, the players don't gain anything, if they do, it doesn't show in the season. The school rep is not even an entice to recruit, I would say GSU made a statement this past weekend and SU last year with UGA. A high school SR QB seeing PV get blasted or SU this past weekend, that's not nothing enticing about seeing these schools getting 50-60 hung on them..like I said, these games do nothing to entice players to come to the university.
You only get one or maybe 2 competitive series and after that it's lights out for the most part
One half is played, hell most of the times it's One QUARTER that is worth watching. So why are you and others sitting up here trying to make these "money games" more than what they are.

4. This has nothing about being socially conscious, it's about being independent. You get it, but the ladder part of your post contradicts what you get?

I can't wait for the day them checks stop rolling in, Then what? Lol.

grand opening, grand closing.
If I ever become an AD no way in hell would I sign up for money games. All the money in the world isnt enough for my school's rep to get dragged through the mud. There are other ways of getting money you just have to get the alumni on board.

Prairie View and Valley does this as well. It's called the "guaranteed tour" pre-dating conference play. If it wasn't for Ecclisia Baptist or whatever that school is named along w/ its brother school, Prairie View would not have had a home game until conference play one year.

The most surprising move recently was when D-I FBSer Texas State M/W came to our place and their mens team kicked our teeth down our throat.

Dude stop it.

Dude if we stop playing these money games at the end of the year, you and others will freak the hell out, you know why, because you and others that are in support of these games don't have any type of vision or plan to substitute what will be missed. The only difference between you and the ADs at these universities is that the fact they get paid to call themselves an A.D. and you don't. Both you and the ADs are the same mindset, which is your right.

School gets skull dragged 81-0 but

"eh we gots our money" smh stuff is so embarrassing"

"I got rape'd but I got my 300k out the deal thoughs" smh Have some pride and try and get it out the mud yoself, at least try smh

You got over 100k alumni and you mean to tell me you can't raise the money you need? you aint trying shat...

Like I said, I hope them racist ass schools stop playing us and let's see who are the real smarty arts of the worlds in these positions.

These ADs need to go to some type of financial class see Dr. Boyce Watkins please

Dude stop it.

If you disagree, that's fine. Simply say so, but don't pretend to know enough about me to cast that type of judgement. You do not hang out in my circles.

No disrespect ATL, but is a lopsided game or two really going to drag your school's rep through the mud? The administration alone at many of our HBCUs do more than enough mud slinging and dragging that would take years to clean off.

First and foremost, get out your feels buddy buddy

Reading your post, you stated that you are in support of these games, I am not, thus you are ok with playing these games, meaning you are ok with not coming up with any new ideas to replace playing these games, thus me saying you have no vision, creative ways to get from under the white man's hand. This has nothing to do with your character, I'm going off of what you've stated about the games and what I've stated.

The ADs have no vision, so I'm attacking them too...again buddy buddy, relax and breath.

Saying you have no plan or no vision is just that off your post, if I'm wrong, throw up a plan or a vision to get off from playing the money games..

As far as I can remember, true, we did not have any home games (except a "scrimmage or "midnight madness" to kick off the season) until conference play. It's been like that for quite some time now (not excusing).
