Grambling State Paid $575,000 for the Arizona Game

If all the schools gave back, then their may not be "money games"....in football and basketball.

What do you suggest we do???

It's difficult to go back to playing classics with mandated schedules and sponsors fading. Plus, the attendance even at top leader schools SU and J-State have declined.

stop playing these games, that's the 1st step.

everything else will fall in place.

Ppl work better when they have to start over and "think"

Universities are a business

You reach out to "sponsors" put together a package and present that to black investment groups.

Put together packages to your alumni/supporters where both parties win.

You have to put together plans/ideas so ppl will 'want' to invest in your athletic program Lol..

We have no "thinkers" in these position, everybody in these position don't think outside the box, they so wrapped up in the 1, 2, 3 step of how it's supposed to be done. Going through Bobby Jindal, going through the gov't, man you got to get in your head, them white folks will eventually stop doing what they are doing, so how can my business survive without their help.

If I had 100k-500k (and this number grows every year lol smh) alumni that came from my institution, aint now way in hell, I'm running to the white man for a check.

the money has got out of hand....you start over now and you'll have to cut staff like barber shops to make payroll

what you do is start building something in anticipation of monies drying up....problem is our fans are opponent based....

There is no shame in playing money games from an economic stand point when you take in account certain factors.

1. Many HBCUs lack large endowments.
2. HBCUs do not have the TV contracts that would help supplement funding for athletics.
3. States have slashed budgets in higher education that have negativity impacted HBCUs.
4. HBCUs can't rely on the black populous to give back because they, themselves, do not have the resources to sustain it.

They think the money will never dry up, thus them questioning me about why I am stating what I am stating. Mental lazyness thinking about today instead of tomorrow.

Cutting staff may hurt, growing pains, I don't care but you have to stop taking these stupid ass money games..."IT DOES NOTHING"

Happy go lucky Knee-grows happy to get outta this mindset man dayum...Ppl don't want to suffer/hurt for a minute to have their own, To many ways to make 500k when you have a fan base over 6k, you got 6k ppl invested in your product, you mean to tell me, you can't pull in a milli a year??
Oh ok

Business 101,

Dude them are lazy excuses and you and others lean on this,

Again, I ask you, what will happen when the money games are no more, then what???

States will continue to slash budgets
HBCUs can't rely on black ppl to give back, but the white racist schools can??? Where does this myth come from??

That's like saying "all black women are angry"

HBCUs won't ever get TV contracts, next (until we get our own)

Man yall are so programmed like a mugg Lol smh dang.

I hope they stop playing us, I can't wait for that day because we only react to stuff when it actually happens. smh

Exit plans do exists folks, you don't have to be on welfare forever. You can become independent if you just 'think'

So if we, blacks, are programmed to take this type of punishment for the money, why is it other FCS schools as well as smaller FBS take these type of games?

Please understand how these budgets work before y'all get on here talking about what HBCUs shouldn't be taking. Pick a game where Gram can clear $500,000 at home. Pick a game where JSU can clear $600,000. Now these games cannot be SWAC games. These are out of conference teams coming to play. Now after thinking on this then, come back with a reasonable reply. Until then, unless y'all got that money to donate to the school those games will be played.

I admit that I don't know anyone fiscal affairs but I will admit that I do know business 101.

It's a numbers game.

Again it's hard for me to go into full detail on how would I cut off the white hand, but playing these games "every" year will be cut off eventually if I became AD. It's as if we are looking for these games because we have become set on this method is what I am saying. How and what would make me say this...Well we are scheduling these type of games ahead (2018) and we are in year 2016, that means we are not thinking of ways to try and not play these games.
All this does is make the board/AD or whoever that's pulling the trigger on these games, "lazy". Dude you have 2 years to try and come up ways to pump out 500,000, you mean to tell me a program like SU can't pull in 500k within 2 years? No one can come up with ideas or other 'money games' to produce 500k, even it the idea or game will garnish 200k, you still winning, but again, it's all about "wanting" to get from under the hand/stop playing these games.

So I ask you founder or anybody who are all about accepting these checks, What will happen when these schools stop asking us to play them and them 500k checks stop rolling in?

Then what we do?

Why wait until this happen, why not, right now, try and find ways now to adjust our programs so that we can already be ready for when this day does happen? and it will

Do you really think these schools need to play us?

If you don't know anyone's fiscals how can you make an adequate fiscal decision about the matter?

Concerning your latter questions it is up to each individual school to market their brand. GSU is marketing their brand to not only black people but all races and ethnic groups. If a school cannot capitalize off their brand maybe that school should not be in the business of student athletics or for that matter the business of educating students.

So what is everything else....what is the business module you are utilizing to base this decision? What type of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats are there for each particular HBCU that are playing these money games. SU and GSU are HBCUs but one is in an urban area and one a rural. Valley is much different from GSU because there is a different type rural in the Mississippi Delta than it is for Lincoln Parish. How does Howard differ than all 3 of the previously named schools. How does the infrastructure of PV affect this decision not to play money games since they built a $65 million stadium.

You approach is too broad to say stop playing the games and everything will fall in place. That's working off the wish factor.

1. Money games aren't going to stop as long as there is money to be made and games for FBS schools to win.

2. White schools have larger donor bases who are on average richer than their black, HBCU counterparts. Go read the data and the studies that show the racial wealth gap, the value of black homes, and how black folks lack access to capital compared to white people.

If a school like MVSU, which is located in one of the poorest areas in Mississippi, and have fewer resources than most stopped playing money games, how would they make up for all those lost dollars?

1. I already stated about what "others" are doing, I couldn't care less, "if everybody go jump in the lake and drown, we should follow suit too?

Black folks love being followers, maybe, just maybe if we stop taking those games, would you think those 'other' schools will want to acquire the knowledge as to how we are supporting our own?

2. I just gave you an example or something to jump off of to get the 500k or come close to it... so if Gram would have cleared 75k from playing a white school then you would have stated, Pick a game when GRAM would clear 75k? What will happen when Mr. White say, "hey I"m not going to pay you 500k anymore, take this 50k check instead? now what?
Dude yall so programmed it's sad, just because it's 500k or 600k today, that doesn't mean it will always be that number, You do know they come up with terms on how much they will pay us, not the other way around, They come up with terms if they will foot the bill for the band to travel, not us, You do know because they are in control and spend their money how they want to, they don't have to pay us at all, then what now, you still playing them????

again that 500k and 600k you throwing out, If I was white school, I'd pay yo ass 25k-50k, then no expenses to cover yo band travels...now what yo go do??
Again you ppl are so programmed and don't even see it...disgusting.
Do you even know how these numbers are determined 500k - 600k?
Why isn't it a flat rate for all? Gram got 500k and JSU got 600k why?
Again yall so dayum programmed and don't even know the whole scheme of things..

It's not even knowing a budget, it's about ways to generate your 'own' money, and stop accepting these pissy ass games..

Exit plans do exists folks, you don't have to be on welfare forever. You can become independent if you just 'think'

I think a lot of us agree w/ you BH. Yes sir, I do believe HBCUs need an exit plan not only for football but M/W basketball as well, as those are the 2 top rev generators in the SWAC.

Until we have a solid exit plan in place, how does Prairie View pay the monthly note w/ interest on that 60M$ deal we just built w/ such a small, abysmal, and apathetic lack of a true and committed fanbase? The 10-12 of us posting here on this site make up ~2.38% of our season ticket sales for 2016 lol. No disrespect to PV faithful but surely all have to know the day is coming when that stadium will be @ 20-30% capacity [cold air, rain, close to holidays, et al], unless something drastic has changed recently [which we see glimpses of w/ this new "panther pride" effort that was launched over the last 10 or so years]. Granted, I think our AD is doing a tremendous effort in attempting to bring in sponsorship $$$ as well as have the dept generate revenue w/out the use of D-1 FBS "guarantee" games [see our fall 2017 schedule which is currently all D-I FCS PWCU and HBCU].

+1

http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/

Nick Saban makes $7,087,481...I think GSU athletic budget is $6 million

Last year Rich Rodrigues received a bonus of $650,000 which is $100k more than they paid GSU to come and play. His total salary from last year was half our athletic working budget.

Again, young man that $500,000 is added into operating costs for the ENTIRE sports budget. So do you think the golf team is raking in big money? How bout the women's tennis team? What about that women's volleyball team? Or better yet the baseball team? That money goes to supporting these other sports. Without that money.......I refuse to continue to use common sense.

Founders,

It's not so important to know a fiscals as you and others are trying to make it out to be.

It's about creating an exit plan to stop accepting these games...that's the plan,

If you take out a loan from a bank right, 15 year term, will you keep taking out loan after loan after loan to support your business?, or will you sit down and look at your bills and 'think' of ways to create another income to eat away at the debt and keep you from using the bank?

That's business 101/common sense

But nope, I'ma keep racking up bills and keep on taking out these loans after loans after loans to pay these cost (playing these games) but wait, when the bank says, "Hey we tired of giving you loans" go away
Then what will you do??? or when they say, last time on your last loan we gave you 600k, well this time, we only going to give you 60k and the next time 15k, then what Lol

Man yall so programmed it's sad mane...

1. You won't to believe that they won't stop, but they will.

2. Never stated who were richer or poorer, I stated that you don't know who all give back and who don't

3. You tell me what MVSU will do when these white schools stop playing them??

Man what you are saying is already a known,

What am I stating is on some, when these schools decides to 'reduce' those fees or better yet cut off your supply, then what will happen?

All I am saying is, we need an exit plan because that day is going to come, just keep living, and we shouldn't wait on that day to start drawing up a plan. Why not start now.

But you and others on here, are so in love with these money games, which is kool, this is why black folks won't ever have their own lane, we are so much tied in what works 'now' instead of what will work in the future.

"you never want someone to control your future and finances"

Appreciate the dialogue though.

I respect your stance

First rule of making fiscal recommendations is know the fiscals of the entity in question. You are making a recommendations for at least 144 colleges with drastically different issues.

Before you take a loan you must examine your credit....depending on score can dictate an interest rate....how much are going to pay down. Is it conventional, VA, ARM, personal, car, or educational. Depending on the dictates a number of things. Also, can you make the payment on the loan?

Ok

Let's say all 144 colleges are in debt for the sake

Again, will you keep taking out loan after loan (playing these money games) or will you eventually sit down and "think" of ways to stop taking out loans?

Yes or No

These schools will not reduce the pay. Thats what you missing. Please understand that. These schools are looking at easy wins to get to a bowl game. If you have paid attention at all in the last ten years these games have actually increased. The only way this will stop is if the FBS schools are punished for playing smaller schools. Until then get the money that will cover expenses.

Operating costs rise every year so how to keep up with these $350,000 gaps? Especially if there are no donors or games to bridge that gap?

Question: How much do you think Grambling and Southern would make if the Bayou Classic rotated between Robinson and Mumford yearly like PV vs. TX Southern and Alcorn vs. JSU.

And don't come with no broad answer either. Give me a Number estimate.

If Southern came and played Grambling in Robinson, Grambling could charge for tickets, parking food and concession, game catalogs, merchandise, etc. I mean, it's common sense.

You don't see Ohio State and Michigan playing on some neutral field. Ole Miss and Miss State don't either. IJS.

I would disagree, me I think they would, if I'm paying you for a W 500k, my money, I'll offer you 50k, I'll tell my other white ADs at school C, D, E, F to start offering you and your buddies 50k-80k to play yall.

Easy W against us don't count towards them going to bowl games, TXAM skull-dragging PV does nothing for their bowl chances...Hell some wouldn't even respect that W Lol no shots at PV, same with SU

The FBS will soon stop these schools from playing us IMO.

You keep mentioning these cost, I understand the cost/bills/ what I'm trying to convey is, what will happen when these schools stop playing us or as I stated, reduce their fee?

You mentioned JSU got 600k, You think JSU will play that same school or another school next week/year for 100k?

How does a loan apply to the current situation...for sake of conversation to do not rob Peter to pay Paul. That is not a successful business practice. Secondly what you are taking in to consideration is the difference in EVERY HBCU. You are also not taking in to consideration the difference in private and public institutions. You are not taking in to consideration that relative to GSU 50% of the state funding was cut and over an eight year period a republican led administration cut infrastructure, hindered hiring, purposely reduced funding to academic programs, and pressured state educational boards to hire lackluster leaders.

That is only the beginning. Yet, your focus is on money games whereby $570k can help reduce a $6 million deficit. Technically money games are not loan. If anything having a 9 game mandate was because athletic departments could only play two out of conference games. That's the true loan with a high interest rate with no return.
