After reading the 'tweet' a day or few ago from KatFans about the forthcoming game(s) against Prairie View A&M, I wanted to learn more about the series of games between the Panthers and Bearkats, so I requested more information about the game(s), as well as Prairie View A&M's upcoming contest against Incarnate Word.

Interesting information to say the least.

Sam Houston State is paying $200k to Prairie View A&M for the Panthers to play at Bowers Stadium in 2018. SHSU is not receiving any money for the 2017 appearance, which I believe is the first game at the Panthers' new stadium (referenced in another thread). The buyout of said home-and-home series is $250k.

Incarnate Word is paying $113k to Prairie View A&M for a Thursday night visit in 2017 to San Antonio. The buyout of said one-game contract is $250k.

Just for note, Prairie View is getting $450k from Texas A&M (with a $500k buyout) for this year's guarantee game. Of extraordinary interest, Rice is joining SHSU in paying Prairie View A&M $200k (though with 50 hotel rooms the night before the game covered by the Owls, which is very generous for a program that can easily make the trek in from Prairie View to SW Houston). The buyout for the contest to be held later this year is $500k.

I wouldn't be surprised if we (pvamu) didn't end up in the southland conference in a few more years. We're simply testing the waters now.....snicker.

Good stuff! Hopefully, this trend will continue for other HBCU programs when they play against nearby non-HBCU, FCS opponents. Similar home-and-home games in the past, when HBCUs have faced PWI, FCS schools, have always favored the PWI school as far as attendance is concerned.

Dam, didn't somebody tell me they didn't believe this when I said it some time ago?

You're wrong about 2017 being the first game at our new stadium. I'm sure for as long as you've perused this site you would know that our stadium opens THIS YEAR (2016). I noticed that someone with an alias similar to yours said the same thing on KatFans.

TT,

Can you tell the folks over at SFA to pick up the phone? We're trying to get back on the schedule. *snicker*

W/ a Prairie View resurgence, they don't want this work. :( I'm sure Lamar, ACU, and HBU will have busy schedules soonest when we come calling fall 2017 during our initial 7-game IC mandate. Watch what I tell ya'. ::read::

Just two more games to fill for the '17 schedule and 3 more for the '18 schedule

We need to bring in a d-2, like tarleton state :) , for one of those games. Y'all understand my reasons why I want that team-exacting payback. But I like the idea of sharing revenue w/ a team like Tx College.
