Jackson State on probation for NCAA rule breaking
Antonio Morales, The Clarion-Ledger12:49 p.m. CDT July 1, 2016

Jackson State's men's tennis program committed a version of identity fraud, landing the university under one-year NCAA probation.

In a statement regarding the decision announced Friday, the NCAA stated: "A former Jackson State University men’s tennis head coach violated NCAA ethical conduct rules when he allowed an ineligible student-athlete to compete under an eligible student-athlete’s name, according to a decision issued by a Division I Committee on Infractions panel."

The school is now under probation until June 30, 2017 for the Level II and III violations.

The violations occurred during the first half of 2015, when Scott Pennington was the Tigers' men's tennis coach. Lois Alexis took over the program in September 2015.

Included in the penalties are: A public reprimand and censure for the university; a 2-year-show-cause order for the former coach, which runs from Friday to June 30, 2018; and the program must vacate records of the matches the ineligible athlete participated in. There is also a $5,000 fine.

The Committee on Infractions panel said Pennington failed to "promote an atmosphere of compliance within the tennis program" and gave a prospect impermissible benefits during the recruiting process, which was considered a Level III violation. Pennington also allowed the same student athlete, who was a non qualifier upon enrollment, to participate and compete in matches.

JSU's men's tennis team won the SWAC this past season and appeared in the NCAA Tournament under the leadership of first-year coach Lois Alexis, who was named the conference's Coach of the Year. The athletic department has yet to comment on the NCAA's decision.

Since the university and former coach agreed to the penalties, there will be no opportunity for an appeal, according to the decision.

Are we paying for the laremy tunsil scandal? You know when the MS "big three " get bad press we get hammered.

Nah lol seriously tho, tennis??

he allowed an ineligible student-athlete to compete under an eligible student-athlete’s name

Not 1947 but in the year 2016... cheating savages. Can't count @ the football gameday turnstiles, can't count in university fiscal affairs, and obviously cannot read either. smh :(

I like this part:

JSU's men's tennis team won the SWAC this past season and appeared in the NCAA Tournament under the leadership of first-year coach Lois Alexis, who was named the conference's Coach of the Year. The athletic department has yet to comment on the NCAA's decision.

Our tennis coach cheated and we fired his ass and disbanded the entire men and women's program in 2007.

That means ya'll were just broke or he was REALLY, REALLY, REALLY cheating so ya'll just pulled that plug b4 the NCAA did! lol

Dang, y'all really cheating in Tennis? This is just sad
