5 SWAC teams with the most to prove in 2016

Not acting like Southern has dominated Jackson. But c'mon TP, admit it ... y'all are collectively on that dope in coaching decisions TWICE.

Y'all were on that pipe, fired Robert Hughes hired Bell ...
lost to us in 2003, 2004, 2005
———————————————————————————————————————————————
Then y'all had a moment of clarity, got rid of Bell and hired Rick Comegy (who went 6-3 vs. SU)
Comegy won in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 (reg season)
Comegy lost in 2008, 2012, 2013 SCG
———————————————————————————————————————————————
Then y'all fugged up and starting hitting that pipe again, relapsed, fired Comegy and hired OMJ
OMJ lost to Southern in 2014 and 2015

Since Bell, you're right, Southern's only 5-6 vs. JSU. However, since Robert Hughes, Southern is 8-6 vs. JSU.
But ask yourself, was the **** Error and the OMJ Error worth it in the long run?
I really hope you guys had another moment of clarity with this Tony Hughes hire

You know dayum wall that most JSU fans never wanted to hire Bell or OMJ. We DID want Hughes fired but Comegy was begging for the job and should have got it. It was time for Comegy to go but we should have hired Hughes back then instead of OMJ. Looks like we get it right the second time around... refusing both Comegy and Hughes and then bringing them back to save the day.

All i know is, most of you should be soooo happy we hired Bell and OMJ....

I feel that every team in the SWAC have something to prove going into 2016.

Alcorn - can we win without Hopson, 75% new staff, and Ragsdale
Alabama St. - can they prove to be more than just the 2nd best team every year. Can Jenkins prove to have the same success he had at Bethune-Cookman at Alabama St.
AAMU - can they prove that they are not just a team that does good the first half of the season and folds in the 2nd Half. Can they prove to be a threat in the EAST.
JSU - can Hughes prove he can coach, will JSU become the old JSU that you couldn't count them out even during a bad year.
MVSU - can Comegy prove that he can do more than upset 1 team in SWAC every year and compete with SWAC instead of just getting beat by 21+ points by 75% of the SWAC

Prairie View - Simmons already proved that he can win without Hopson, Now Prairie View is going to have to prove that last year wasn't a fluke and that they caught everyone slipping. Can Prairie View win without those good running backs.
Grambling - can they win without Jonathan Williams, will all of Fobbs work finally yield him a championship
SU - can they finally beat Alcorn. Can they prove that they have the talent and coaching to get back to the SCG.
TXSU - can Haywood prove that he can win at TXSU. Can Texas Southern win without getting on probation.
UAPB - can they prove that 2012 wasn't a fluke and that they will be competitive with the SWAC unlike the last 2 years.

Nice stuff.

I disagree about Grambling should be at number on this poll because for one, Doug had tore up the program, i mean tore it up. Fobbs comes and turn it around quick, lost the Bayou Classic his first year, won the SWAC West the second year and Bayou Classic but lost the SCG, we are actually ahead of schedule from what Doug put us through and Fobb is still loading up on talent, then keep in mind that Grambling swept the SWAC until the SCG rematch with Alcorn. This week dude brought in another transfer Wide Receiver in. I still say Alcorn has the most to prove, for one they weren't even in the equation before they hired Hobson, he turned it around and now he is gone, took most of the staff with him, key players graduated, new coaching staff that hasn't proved themselves yet, they won back to back championships so the pressure is all on them. The are currently the SWAC Champs. They have to do everything in their power to try to three-peat and maintain.

I agree with him bruh. We have the most to prove. Doug not pulling DJ was our only reason for struggling when we were losing. Many didn't agree with me before Fobbs debut, but we had enough talent in the roster to win the SWAC title and the new staff almost did. Last year, same thing. This season, we will be in line again. Fobbs record is great vs the SWAC, but the time has come to finish the job and bring the SCG Crown back where it belongs. No excuses this year.

If the QB yall have now from Ole Miss can produce what Jonathan Williams did you will be a threat.

I saw him play a few games in HS. He's awfully gifted and talented. I'm sure he'll do well for Grambling State University.

No disrespect to JWilliams former QB of GSU but he was an INT throwing machine, imho. Granted, he led GSU's offense but imho, GSU could've been more productive w/out him chunking INTs all over the place. How many did he throw vs Alcorn St in the SCG last fall? 3? 4? It was something along those lines I think.

Any team that falls one game short of the SGC one year, loss the SGC the next, and owns a 2-1 record over the defending 2 time champs in 2 years will be the team that has something to prove more than any other team. GSU and Fobbs will soon be "The Big Engine That Couldn't" if the G-Men choke again.

JSU is running close to the top to me. When I watched the 1st quarter of the MTSU game, it was horrible decisions by the JSU staff that allowed them to get blown away early. The talent gap between them and the FBS program wasn't worthy of a 70-14 score. Ivy looked pretty good against them when he had time to think. JSU has talent returning and a solid class. Just like SU, their season will only go where the new staff takes them. (Although missing spring camp might hurt the Jags.)

JSU can win with Hughes. Hughes himself has a lot to prove. He has a nice staff with a good mix of ages and backgrounds.

Probation tho? LOL

Not gonna harp on 2014, we won in 2015, current events.

I hear ya. We will see if Fobbs can finish strong this year. I predicted Alcorn to win the SWAC title last season because GSU's defense (or maybe just the DC) didn't showcase champion ability. Maybe they (or he) improves this season.

I heard he wasn't that good

Kincade had like 13 FBS (P5) offers coming out of high school. I can't see him being less than "real good". Reading some comments about him at Ole Miss, he beat the other QB's out in mental competitions and other drills, but fell behind in the lineup due to small injures and having to leave school to attend to his mother. Grambling might very well have a great QB on their hands, but that has to be proven on the field. Also, there is not another QB in HBCU football today that has had that many offers from P5's. That list is crazy. We are talking Notre Dame, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Kansas State and plenty others. Him and Ivy will have plenty of eyes on them this year.

If you heard any hype, it was due to us being happy that Hughes was gone. Hughes was cool but he was not a game planner.. nor was he a recruiter.. but at the time, he was in the budget... LOL Bell came in and brought with him some coaches with FBS experience and he was a former FBS DC. We knew JSU had talent, we just wanted someone to coach it... we had no idea dude couldn't coach at all... but AGAIN, it was a mad uproar when he was hired. U know DAYUM WELL ole TP was NOT going to act like we have hired a buster.. never that! Poker face all day.... Honestly, I was HOPEFUL that Bell could work but after a while, it was obvious that he had no clue.
