New bill would limit travel of all la. Schools except LSU

"Leader of Kings"
Prohibits athletic programs at public postsecondary education institutions that receive state general fund monies from traveling more than 375 miles for athletic competitions. Excludes LSU institutions and all football and basketball programs. Proposed law requires the boards of supervisors of Southern University, the University of La. System, and the Community and Technical Colleges to develop and implement policies to prohibit athletic programs from traveling more than 375 miles to compete in athletic competitions. Provides that proposed law does not apply to: (1) Football or basketball programs. (2) A playoff or championship competition. (3) An athletic competition hosted by an opposing school that pays all travel and associated costs for the La. team.

This would allow LSU to continue to conduct its business in the SEC as usual, in all sports.

I am kinda lost, dont all sports not just football and basketball, sometimes play school more then 375 miles away..

When government starts to interfere with stuff likes this it opens up a whole set of other problems. Why don't they worry about issues that people care about, better health care, education , roads..... I bet most mofo don't care about this issue.

UNDER THIS BILL.SU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY ALABAMA A & M IN BASEBALL OR ANY OF THE MINOR SPORTS AND WOULD THEREFORE HAVE TO LEAVE THE CONFERENCE. HUNTSVILLE/NORMAL IS MORE THAN 400 MILES FROM THE BR.
 
2. Many in the state have long desired to squeeze Nich St., McNeese, Grambling, Southern, Southeastern, ULM, ULL, and Tech into one conference. This would be a tool to do so seeing that these travel restrictions would see all of those school kicked out of their respective conferences.

In that case, LSU-S should be exempted too.

This is a dumb bill concocted by a LSU person in order to find extra monies to fund higher education so that LSU sports wouldn't be threaten again due to budget cuts in higher education. Instead of robbing Peter to pay Paul, these fools need to push for some type of constitutional legislation to protect higher education from drastic budget cuts.

SU doesn't travel to AAMU for baseball or any other team in the east. You only play your division in baseball.
 
Red state Republicans are beyond believable. I'm glad Louisiana finally has a Democratic governor with some common sense that can explain to these fools the consequences of their foolish decisions. I bet he didn't know LSU's athletics could have been impacted due to budget cuts until Governor Edwards explained it to him.

Basically, another Livingston Parish typed person living in East Baton Rouge. What he just did is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure other fools will try to concoct bills to move more money from other universities systems to the LSU System. This is when SU legislators need to do the same, with the support of the UL System legislators, but in the reverse of what LSU legislators are trying to do.

No Track in Alabama. SU went to a couple Indoor meets in Birmingham, plus UNO hosted an indoor meet in Birmingham. Outdoor track championships are in Huntsville. Indoor in Birmingham
Soccer traveled to Washington, DC, Montgomery, and Huntsville for conference games. Soccer Tourney was in Huntsville (didn't make it).
Softball has played at TnSU this season already

I understand his premise [save $$$]. My issue w/ PV was traveling across 2 differing states to compete in a 3rd state smh. Centsless. But I understand the desire to avoid the ass sodomizing that SHSU, SFA, HBU, Lamar, IWU, McNeese St, et al will assuredly give in 99.9% of all sports lol.

None of the good teams on that list are 375 miles away from the furthest Louisiana school in the Southland. LOL Heck one of them IS a Louisiana school.

Yep. I was speaking in PV's case how it's absurd for PV to travel across 2 entire states to get to another state to compete while bypassing almost 10 FCS schools to get there lol. Ridiculous.
