PVAMU Announces Brown Will Not Return As Head Coach

I don't see anything wrong with that rule during season. From April until Sept date who you want but once preseason workouts start its done.

A human being can't just turn emotions on/off like that. What you're saying is on August 31st they have to break up and no longer be in a relationship but only teammates but when April 1st rolls around they can get back at it.

During season no one is dating anyone that has anything to do with the program. Nothing should be messing with the team chemistry and locker room. Out of season as long as your eligible, and not breaking any laws. This is no different than a coach saying no facial hair. If you disagree... be gone! Poof*

Like those girls' dating relationships with other girls on campus or guys on campus can't impact the team either.

All I'm going to say is this: Do you guys REALLY think that Coach Brown (as the head coach) would just release players from her team on her own without getting feedback from compliance (and even the AD) to see what implications it might have with Title IX and even APR issues the schools these days tend to hold coaches accountable for?

I don't know Coach Brown. I've never held a conversation with her - other than ask her a question or two during a postgame presser. But you can't tell me that she would jeopardize her own job in releasing players from her team without knowing she had the backing/support of the school to do so. It's one thing if this is just about wins and losses, but we already know it wasn't.

This is one sided of course, but maybe this adds a little clarity on the matter:

The two players filed a complaint against Brown citing that they were kicked off the team because of their sexual orientation, which violates Title IX, which bans discrimination based on sex.
"The important thing to note is that the rule was not particular to women's basketball players only," said Garry Rosenfield, Brown's agent. "It was particular to everybody that has a role within the team which includes both women and men."
Brown said she enforced the rule after an assistant coach was fired for having an inappropriate relationship with a player and by all accounts the rule was cleared through the proper channels - Prairie View A&M athletics director Ashley Robinson and her Title IX office.

Brown said the university is focusing on the allegations instead of the fact that she was advised and given the OK to enforce the rule.

You can act like you don't understand. It is not uncommon to have rules about dating people in the work place. That's not arbitrary, but hey maybe you should date in your work place. I hear that never goes bad.

I don't care about their emotions. They can feel whatever they want to feel. They can be in love if they want to, just don't date, hook up, press up on anyone related to the team during season. Where y'all trippin' in that other thread like this about ol' boy trying to hook up with the female player? Anybody heard from Pokey Chatman recently?

workplace?

These are student-athletes, not employees.

The AD has to know his people. Coach Brown is not one to go down quietly...Ashley better have his ducks in a row because it appears Brown has hers lined up quite nicely.

Yes sir. I've said all that I have to say on the matter. But I forgot one thing.... are you all interested in sending Charles back home? ::read:: ;) :D lol

All those great sTu grads over the years, you mean to tell me you all couldn't locate an in-house type hire [[sTu grad]] who is more than capable of leading your athletics department?

Lol....you know the answer to that one. Don't forget Chuck got us sued also for firing a female basketball coach.

again with the crazy? why don't you link one of those other threads you started or contributed to where the athletes sued to be call employees and unionize.

You can't use phrases and words like "nonprofessional relationships" and "workplace" and not think that might be inconsistent with how amateurism is applied.

Whomever wrote this rule should be fired:

The rule said: “Players may not have nonprofessional relationships with other players, coaches, managers, trainers, or any other persons affiliated” with the program.

Please define "nonprofessional".

There's to much ambiguity in that word.

True. What if you have a male student trainer or grad assistant who has a platonic friendship with one of the players? Would they suspend that player for hanging out? Or what about 2 players who are really close friends and roommates? Certainly friendship is a "nonprofessional relationship". That is a dumb rule that cannot be enforced properly.

The fact is any rule that tries to restrict relationships between players is inherently unfair.

Pokey is the head coach and GM of the Chicago Sky in the WNBA. But her situation is different since she was a coach messing with players.

Here is the full statement from Brown:

Today, my athletic director, Mr. Ashley Robinson, notified me that my employment as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Prairie View A&M University has been terminated for cause, effective immediately. This decision was based on an alleged Title IX violation stemming from the removal of two student-athletes from our team following their violation of team rules.

This past August, after a situation involving an inappropriate relationship between a coach and a player that resulted in the termination of the coach involved, I collaborated with my Title IX office in drafting a rule to prohibit non-professional relationships between individuals affiliated with our team. The language of the rule read, “Players may not have non-professional relationships with other players, coaches, managers, trainers, or any other persons affiliated with the women’s basketball program.” Not only was this rule approved by the University’s Title IX office, but a copy of the rule was given to the athletic department. Until this investigation, I was never notified of any Title IX issue with the rule and trusted the advice I received from my Title IX office and my Director of Athletics.

Following a violation of multiple team rules this season, including the prohibition of non-professional relationships, two student-athletes were suspended from team activities. This decision was extremely difficult for me but was made with consultation, encouragement and approval from my Director of Athletics. These women were allowed to keep their scholarships and remain students at Prairie View A&M.

I admit that I held two players accountable for not complying with team rules. Today, Prairie View A&M fired me because its investigation determined that the rule in question violated Title IX even though the same Title IX office that conducted the investigation helped me draft the rule two years ago. Clearly, I feel betrayed and unjustly penalized by this action.

Despite today’s events I remain hopeful because I know that God has a plan for me and my family. I look forward to continuing my coaching career and serving as a positive influence for young women on and off the court again in the near future.

Man...

Our AD and Title IX staffer has to be sitting in their office right now like this...
