Good point. I didn't think about that. If we are seeds 1-4, it would be ideal for our schools.

Yes, using AAMU as an example. Play on Tuesday, Wednesday travel to Houston and participate in the awards banquet that evening. Then play again Thursday.
If TSU and PV are seeds 1-4, no travel while the other schools will need to travel to Houston after already playing a tourney game.
It seems like it would be a logistics nightmare.

So do all of the teams and coaches HAVE to go to the awards banquet? If so, this is even more dumb. We just need to get out of a 18K seat facility.

So TP will we need to get out of NRG stadium as well since we will never fill it up? Same type of argument. This is for the student/athlete experience and not just a fan experience. It may not look good for some but if you always think small, you stay small. At least they are trying to cut down the days to make more people want to make the games. Bringing the first round to the campus gives the students and fans a chance to pack the gym and cheer on their team. Money being made not lost. The travel shouldn't matter for the first round as long as you get a day or two before the final rounds start.

Also, the travel is going to be WORSE on the teams especially if you go on the road and win.. they have to travel again. Imagine JSU having to play at BAMA State then turning around to go to Houston after we win. We could have just went to Houston to begin with. Also, if you want to talk about student experience, you don't want them tired. Your last sentence is just dumb. The last week of SWAC play, some of those kids play Monday, Thursday and Saturday.. then they ill have to play again the next Tuesday or Wednesday to get to Houston by Thursday.

Yep, it's like I'm talking to the wall. Do you not believe that the SWAC will make sure there is travel time in between the games if they go to the format of playing the first round on the campus of the top 4 seeds?! Would you not want JSU to host a game for the home crowd? This is basketball, hell attendance is already rough. Stop going with the negative "what ifs" and look at the positive "what ifs". Dang, you don't wanna play at a NBA arena, you don't want a home game, how can the SWAC make this better for you?

As was stated earlier It's no different then any other conferences that does it. As for the other teams not making the tournament that has a higher rpi. I think you're smart enough to know the rules of the ncaa tournament seeding. One has nothing to do with the other.
FYI: It's not like we haven't done it before.

I wouldn't mind JSU hosting a game but I wouldn't be jumping up and down about it either. Maybe it's because I live 16 hours away from Jackson... lol
However, there is still trade off. If JSU has to travel to PV or TxSo anyway, they may as well had just had all teams in Houston as far as I am concerned. BUT if JSU has to travel to AAMU or AlaState, why would I be excited about that? We would have to travel to BAMA on Tuesday and then to Houston on Wed on Thurs and that makes good sense to you?

..as for your NGR statement. It makes no sense. It holds 70K and we get 40K.. that's not terrible. However, what other options do we have? There are no 40-50K seat climate controlled stadiums in the South. Our only other options would be to play outside again and we dont' want that. For bball, we have a choice.

I get what you are saying. Have all the opening rounds on Tuesday. That would give teams enough time to rest and prepare and travel

Heard during the SU/HC broadcast that the Patriot League's entire tournament is played at different campus venues. HC had to travel 4 times throughout the tournament since they were the lower seed each round.
That's when the games begin and the next round games are not till friday.
Folks talking about all this long travel to Houston forgot that the conference use to do this and teams had to travel to Birmingham for the tournament.

It used to be on Tuesdays.....the problem still is how can you really have home court advantage unless the schedules are altered severely.....
You have to have travel partners play the last week for minimal travel or it's not much of a home court if tsu plays aamu in Huntsville on a Saturday for the finale and then turn around and host them on Tuesday in the tourney opener

Man, yall trippin'. Keep the tournament like it is, just GTF outta the Toyota Center if it's hurting your pockets. Why we trying to drive a Bentley if we can't afford the gas anyway? Sound like "N***a Sh*t" to me. You got ticket prices too high to watch crappy azz bball for 4 days. You got P5 conferences playing in NBA venues and selling them out. The smaller conferences don't. They don't even try. Why we can't just be smart business people instead of trying to "Get Ya Shine On" all the damn time?

Their first plane ride this season was to Dayton. Their schedule allowed them to go to all their games via bus.

That's what all it boils down to. Houston is a good place for it. There are the venues here outside of the Toyota Center. We don't have enough fan support to be alternating from campus to campus in my opinion.
Lets just work towards building the brand and support in Houston.

Umm Fiyah.. The distance between Bham and Houston is the same in both directions so Im sure the same arguments would apply in BOTH cases.
One is much larger than the other and has more access points (airports & freeways) to get there. Which gives you more choices for housing, food & entertainment.
