The SWAC is in negotiations to keep the tournament in Houston


Allowing the swac regular season champ to host the conference tournament is what should happen. Its a reward for regular season excellence.

Schools want to stay away from having tournament games at one of its member schools.

I wouldn't mind the conference looking into playing at the New Delmar Field house in Houston. It's not that far from the Galleria Area for shopping, eating and plenty of hotels nearby.

It would be a planning nightmare. Think about trying to find hotel rooms for all those teams in a short time. You may not know who is the regular season champ until the last night of the regular season.

How would you do the women's and men's tournament if held in different cities at the same time.
No way, no how...
 
It was being rumored that they would go back to 8 teams making the field with the 1st round on campus and the semi-finals & finals in Houston on friday and saturday.

And imagine if a school like Alcorn or Valley won the tourney. Planning and housing at least 16 teams in the nearby area.
 
In those days the rotation was always in the cities that were central to the conference. Baton Rouge, Jackson, and Houston

Fixed it for you lol.

Itta Bena doesn't have any hotels but there are enough quality national chain hotels under 30 minutes from campus that could sustain a tourney (Greenwood 5 minutes away (3 new hotels) and Indianola 20 minutes away (1 just opened up this month), Grenada 30 minutes)

LOL....when people bring up these maps based on distance I laugh because Birmingham was just as far. Houston is just as far.

I saw that Tweet. I think this is very favorable.
I also think the SWAC was too aggressive with the cost per session for the Tuesday thru Thursday games.

They have to cover the expenses im sure. I don't like being on campus. I like the idea of all teams being in Houston. I like the arena that Fiyah posted... its a HS arena but it meets our needs. We don't need 20K seats.

Man, something is going to give soon. There is NOTHING south-western but aPVm and sTu in the SWAC. This is a geographically $$$$ nightmare budget buster for aPVm and sTu. smh It would be financially prudent for the other 8 current schools to form their own conference and for aPVm and sTu to enter a new conference (travel, budget, time wise for athls). Cannot speak to sTu but it would be in aPVm's best interests financially to situate itself in a conference that isn't so travel heavy (distance + time = $$$$$).

I heard the same Saturday morning. As always cost considerations are weighing heavily.

There are more SWAC Alumi in Houston than any other city we cosider moving the tournament to. That has to count for something.
