The SWAC is in negotiations to keep the tournament in Houston

If not in Houston, what other cities would be a nice selection??? Dallas, New Orleans, Little Rock, Birmingham, etc.???

We tried Garland and Birmingham. I think New Orleans would be cool. Houston is not a problem with me especially for Friday and Saturday.

I agree New Orleans would be the most attractive location since it's more centralized.than Houston in the SWAC. Has SU ever played in the Smoothie King Center (New Orleans Arena) yet?

I think Houston is the best, but NO would be nice. Attendance in Houston will be okay as long as one of these schools are in the Finals: TSU, PVU, SU, JSU, GSU, and may be Alcorn.

It should be this way at this juncture. As i said this morning, you will be hard pressed to get a lot of people to book their vacation for 5 days around the SWAC tourney when your team could be gone by day 2. In football, you really know ahead of time to book those PTO days for Homecoming and/or SCG

That's with any tournament really

These French Quater folks who have moved to New Orleans from different walks of the white brick road of America will try to get rid of the SWAC tournament in a heartbeat once they here "everyone" from the SWAC is coming down to party. Lol.

Anyway, how about Missisisppi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi? I think folks would like being on the coast for the weekend.

That's true but especially with our fan bases when it comes to basketball.

Our fanbase is no different then any others dude. Like in any other thing we tend to look at the extreme and take it to be the norm.

I challenge you to look at other conferences attendance off campus and out of state. You'll see they are just about the same and in many cases worst.

Yea cause I was watching UCONN and that attendance was terrible for the entire American tournament. All smaller conferences catch it with attendance.

They did the Gulf Coast thing before. Would like to see it back down there myself

It sounds like the SWAC wants to continue the tournament in an NBA type arena. There are plenty of non-NBA arenas in the SWAC footprint.

Cities with non-NBA arenas that can hold the SWAC tournament:
Jackson, MS
Biloxi, MS
Shreveport, LA
Baton Rouge, LA
Monroe, LA
Alexandria, LA
Montgomery, AL
Birmingham, AL
Huntsville, AL
Little Rock, AR

I would have said Lafayette, LA and Lake Charles, LA, but those two arenas are home to ULL and McNeese basketball respectfully.

The kids deserve an NBA type arena.... leave it in Houston.

There are only 2 NBA arenas within the SWAC footprint, New Orleans and Houston. If the SWAC had a school in Oklahoma, then Dallas would come into play.

That's a good question for the commissioner.
They want the football championship and the tournament to be a big event.

I have been two the last two CB championships and I really enjoyed myself. I was pleasantly surprised by the attendance at the tournament (finals) this year. A-3041

Just Asking.......why do we need a NBA Arena for a couple of thousand people at most.....

Because the kids look forward to it...... its every ballers dream to make it to the NBA... if not make it to the NBA.... play in an NBA arena... go to an NBA locker room. I know... even in losing, AAMU players were excited to play at the Toyota Center.

And the southland plays in the Merrill center 30 miles down the road with similar crowds with half the atmosphere

You don't think if the Toyota center comes free it will be in demand? Just like how all the other fcs leagues have found ways to poach an ESPN deal or other fcs teams looking for a bowl game
