So I'm in McDonalds and this is what happened:

Cashier: Maam your total is 21.68.
Lady: Lord ain't got but $20.
Son: Dang momma (he's a teenager)

Yall I was about to give her $1 until I looked down and he had on some Jordans.

Me: How much those set you back?
Son: My momma got em.
Me: Oh
Lady: They were $200 but anyway sir you got a $1
Me: You should have got the pair for $199 with tax.
Other Cashier: Sir here's your order have a good day.
Me: Thank you.

I walk out.

Ok folks had looks on their face like WTH-LMAO.-LOL-AWWWW HELL NAW LOL....

Ok maybe she forgot to go to the ATM but McDonalds takes credit and debit cards. If she could afford a pair of $200 Jordans then she should contact Michael Jordan and ask for a $1. I'm sick of people spending stupid money on material items making other folks rich. Yet, ain't got a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of.

You could tell folks were about to give her the money until she said how much the Jordan's cost.

Maybe she had more money at the time he got those shoes. Maybe she lost her job. Maybe someone else gave her money for the shoes. Could have been a number of factors. I have been around enough poor kids with decent shoes to know anything could have factored into them getting them, and anything could have factored into her not having that extra $1 she needed.

I ain't mad atcha! Folks need to learn to count THEIR MONEY...without mine...the folks behind did the same thing you did...

I wasn't trying to figure that out. My thing is even if she didn't have the cash use a debit card. Exhaust all your options before asking for money. Hell I have never owned Jordans.

And of course the woman had no role in this at all right? Too easy, take off one of them fries, down size those meals to med/small, take your butt home & cook.

EXACTLY!!!!

She ordered a large everything come to think about it. I remember the two big ass cups sitting there.

Nope, you're not wrong it's your money.
I do understand some of the thought process of others about the boy's shoes, but even I wouldn't have made that assumption in that short of time. I would have gotten my food and left.

But he didn't enough know about that woman or her personal situation to treat her that way. Just don't give her the dollar and move on.

But you said you were going to offer the dollar before finding out her son was wearing Jordan's.

I was...it bothered me that she would pay $200 for some shoes. You are right I was going to give her the dollar. To be real with you I have seen homeless people walking down the interstate and I have turned around, picked up something from McDonalds and gave it to them.

Wrong for not giving her the dollar......nope. Wrong for dressing her down about what she bought for her son without knowing the situation.....yes.

We have all been in the situation where we came up short of cash on a purchase we were making. So of us have done what this lady did and asked for it while others have put something back to get under the amount of cash on hand. Where I find you to be a bit hypocritical is in the fact that you said that you were going to give her the dollar until you saw the kid's shoes and decided to get into her business and began making assumptions. The easy thing to do would have been to just decline the request, get your food, and keep it moving.

Some part of me does feel guilty about my comment because if I didn't I would not have asked. I actually hoped that she did downsize the meal.

My parents had good jobs and never bought me a pair. To this day I have never owned a pair of Jordans and never will.

Heck I were canvas shoes from Payless when I was in junior high. I hated it and got teased. Until one day I put on some linen pants and I looked cool. My dad would go and buy me 10 pair in various colors at the beginning of the school year and I would wash them and keep them fresh. In high school I stepped up to All-Stars.

To me what this mother was teaching her child was wrong...to me she gave him the impression that if you don't have enough money it's cool to ask from a stranger rather than getting a smaller quantity to fit your budget.

It's your money and time you have the right to spend it the way you want, but sometimes helping folks out isn't a bad thing. Besides depending on what she looked like I would have paid for the whole meal. Lol

My mother, who didn't have a lot when I was a kid, bought me a pair of Jordan's when I was a teenager. I wanted them. She only bought them for me after I maintained good grades in school.

And I couldn't imagine someone judging how responsible she was because I had on nice sneakers after coming up a dollar short trying to buy burgers.

You a have bias against a certain kind of people who own or buy Jordan's. That doesn't give you the right to be judgmental, though.

If her azz is big she gets a dollar. If she got the face, shape and azz the meal is paid for.

Example: I give my son $100 allowance a month with restrictions. His grades drop it goes down. He gets in trouble it goes down. If he wants to buy something say a playstation 4 I tell him to save up the $100. I pay child support so he is cool in that regard. He wanted a suit from Express and saved up the $300. When we went to the store I was proud that he had budgeted himself so I told him to keep his money and I paid for it.

+1. Best response ^^^^^^.

I have bias against folks who would rather ask than downsize. I mean come on Kendrick she was ordering two large meals. She could have gotten a medium that fit in to her budget.
