ESPN's "E:60" is set to air an investigative report on Tuesday night that will examine the link between artificial turf and cancer in athletes.

The piece will examine whether enough has been done scientifically and policy-wise to appropriately address possible health risks from artificial turf.

In the segment, former U.S. women's soccer midfielder and ESPN reporter Julie Foudy speaks to University of Washington goalkeeper coach Amy Griffin. Griffin compiled a list of almost 200 athletes with cancer who have played on artificial turf that contains tiny black rubber pellets called "crumb rubber."

"E:60" released a three-minute excerpt from the piece Tuesday afternoon that delves into the lack of attention on the issue from Environmental Protection Agency.

Grilled food is supposed to be healthier compared to fried food, but the charcoal, used to grilled the food that is supposed to be healthier, is cancerous.

Go figure!

I'm no saying the studies aren't true, but I'm just saying.

I don't think this is coincidence...
Not that I am attempting to discredit this report, but it's been reported that too much sun can cause cancer too.

When will it end?
Too much sun can cause cancer... This Cancer and turf thing is kind of personal for me... I witnessed a young lady go from being vibrant 21 year old to being dead at 25. I was literally there the moment they told her that what she thought was pull muscle in her back was actually Cancer and she needed surgery immediately. We didn't know at the time that there were hundreds of kids who played soccer especially goalkeepers across the country suffering from the same form of cancer. That day Austen Everette (that's her name) came to the hospital to support my godson her boyfriend at the time who had broken his finger in a pickup game. She didn't leave that hospital for 6 weeks. She died 31/2 years later.

Cancer is a serious disease that has affected many people's lives. In most cases those that research its causes go through extremely challenging experimental testing such that they will not be ridiculed. I suppose this should be same for those that report on this type of research. But, because we live in such capitalistic and cynical society, rightful so in many instances, I suppose it is only par for the course that many think that way.

My thing is why is this mainly happening to soccer goal keepers? Also, high school football players play on this same type of turf. Shouldn't there be a study to see if any of them have come down with the same form of cancer?

People, please do not make light of this! Everything is not a joke! Cancer is very serious thing to talk about!

I don't think people are making a joke out of what happened but more of how damn near everything we do can cause some form of cancer. My father, both sets of grandparents, and an aunt died from some form of cancer. My grandmothers and aunt died from breast cancer, my grandfather from lung cancer (never smoked a day in his life but his lungs looked like he smoked a pack a day for 50 years), and my father from Agent Orange Cancer.

i remember a while back there being discussions attempting to link cancer deaths in former mlb catchers to them playing on the old astroturf diamonds that were prominent in the sport for much of the 70s through the early 2000s.

It really is a misnomer to state that anything causes cancer. Things can increase (or decrease) the risk of cancer, but given the complexity of human biology, there is never a straight line between any particular thing and cancer.

That being said, this isn't the first time questions have been raised about the potential hazards of rubber-based turf fields. Considering that these fields have only been in wide use for about a decade, we've just now reached a point where the issue can begin to be widely studied.

Founder, there are more things that have cancer than we think. I am a young person that graduated from High School in the 80's and my wife and I have lost classmates too early to cancer and they never smoked. But I do feel you that they will tell you that something causes cancer today and six months later, it doesn't.

Kendrick, I remember that discussion as well. Interesting that it has surfaced once again!
