This writer suggests SWAC and Ivy League Schools Be Invited to Bowl Games


If we support the CB, and the attendance is maintain through out the contract. I will say 50,000 no less for each CB, we will have a better bargaining chip to go to espn with..
I honestly think that if the Honda battle of the bands was moved to that Friday and the game that Saturday .. it would a no brainer and have a deal with tickets for both invites,, I think it would be Win.win

ESPN is concerned with TV viewers. If we get 1M+ viewers they will love the CB regardless of in stadium attendance.

If ESPN and SOME MONEY was presented at a neutral site. What would be their concern about playing the SWAC?

The Ivy League has never participated in the playoffs because of finals. And they won't play a bowl game against a runner-up SWAC champion for the same reason.

That's just the excuse they have been using. Their other sports continue playing and practicing during that time.

The question wasn't from me, nor was it posted for my satisfaction. But as @jag4life indicated, that is the excuse they use for football, but their actions indicate otherwise. In fact the Ivy League is so concerned about the academics of their student athletes, they are considering implementing a conference basketball tournament for next year.

In other words, they won't be playing the SWAC in a bowl game. Lol.
 
If the Ivy league plays in a bowl game, it will either be against the Patriot League or against a lower tier FBS school (like the Sun Belt) in their own bowl game. Them Ivy league folks ain't no dummies. They know the FCS playoffs are a sham lol plus they don't need any money from ESPN. Just exposure.

Plus Harvard and Yale are the main reasons why they don't participate in the FCS playoffs. "The Game" (I think) is pretty much in their by-laws as the last game that will be played in the league. The other 6 schools don't want to rock the boat and push for the playoffs

LOL. You know that aint the reason. They participate in March Madness that takes kids away from class way more time than a Saturday football game.

They can't play in a FBS bowl game if they are FCS level. So they have no choice but to either play in the pimp playoffs or a FCS type Bowl game. Unless they plan to move up to FBS. They will not be able to play a bowl game against a FBS team.

I don't think you can say that. What the Ivy league is saying. They aint PAYING to play in that playoffs. Or LOSE money. If the playoffs were having PAYOUTS. They would play. Ivy Leaguers ain't no dummies. If ESPN approached them with MONEY in hand to play ANY FCS conference team in some FCS level bowl. I bet their tune would change. That's why they participate in March Madness. They are not changing anything for the playoffs. Nothing in it for them. But you can't just say they will turn down a FCS bowl game if the money and sponsorship is right. Has nothing to do with them not wanting to play the SWAC. If ESPN says there is a million dollar payout to them to play one of our schools. You really believe they will say no?

Now, how much payout money would a game vs. a SWAC opponent generate?

Here's a hint: not enough to justify the cost.

Keep in mind, these schools aren't as resource-starved as we are...

So if it wouldn't generate enough then why have the only fcs bowl of any significant had been with a SWAC participant?


Why did espn come to us and not them first?

Why is our bowl game kicking off bowl season on abc?

Because the payout is split between two HBCU conferences. The MEAC won't turn down a million bucks and the SWAC sure as hell won't. But if there's an FCS conference that would, it's the Ivy League.

They'll use the same old lame excuse they've used to duck the playoffs.
