For The Love Of Money...HBCUs Taint Their Legacies With Money Games

Ohio State battered FAMU 76-0 in 2013. Although the money schools like FAMU earn for playing superior opponents is important, the legacy of their football program should be even more important.
The 7th ranked Georgia Bulldogs football team will host the Southern University Jaguars in Athens, Georgia on Saturday. I am making this prediction right now, Southern will win...........the halftime show.
Southern's incredible 'Human Jukebox' marching band, one of the best bands in the land, will be on hand to perform. And while I am sure the Bulldogs' marching band is a fine unit, they don't stand a chance against the 'Human Jukebox'.
As for the actual football game itself, it is going to be a joke. (Continued.......)
 



We think we need $300,000-$500,000 to have a successful football program. What many people don't realize is the facade that FBS schools put up for recruits to see. In Football, it always been about the BASICS!!!!

Example: You just need a Basic Weightroom (doesn't need to have TVs, Game Consoles, etc. Maybe one radio system for the players to hear music while lifting).

Example #2: Nutrition. You don't need a whole building dedicated to nutrition for athletes. Most students eat in the cafe for free. Educate them on nutrition and as a coach, make them have consequences for not taking care of their bodies before practice.

I am also upset at Stump for putting SU in this Georgia Game.

SU should make it Priority #1 EVERY YEAR to put FAMU or TN State on the Football Schedule, even ahead of FBS.

Exactly. Funny how when we get into the money game all of a sudden is bad for business. Just like they started to criticize the classic games now whose doing those also.

We're the biggest group of suckers on the planet. I say for everyone critiquing hbcu's for doing what the pwi's have been doing for years.

Either write a check or shut the hell up.

;) INDEED! Cause jawjacking and posting on message boards does absolutely nothing zero zilch nada for our revenues, ie., athletic budgets.

I think folks [like those who wrote this article] forget that it isn't just hbcu fcs teams that the FBS teams are scheduling - they do also include FCS teams that aren't hbcus.

But did su REALLY have to schedule this game out of desperation for money?
Will this hurt the school's reputation more than anything and make more players susceptible to injury?
 
For starters HBCUS are not the ONLY FCS programs getting the score ran up.on them by the big schools

We not pumping 500,000 or more into our programs for one game....

And let's be clear SU players could get hurt playing LOUISIANA COLLEGE,

And idk why SU NAME IS being brought up.. FAMU was playing UM and UF for years, AAMU Playing AUBURN AGAIN, SCState played TXAM, CLEMSON, AND USC, ALCORN played Gatech, Norfolk played Rutgers, and UK, I can go on.... hell a few years ago.. UA was willing to pay almost a million for a opponent,, if u don't believe me go look.it up... I bet if we did not have that mandate.. how many AD in the SWAC would have been calling UA..

Ha ha. Alabama has a bye week this week as well. So what's the difference. You sure are critical of SU for going to get their check. Were you like this against Ms State a few years back?

Yes SU has a bye week after this game. We don't play again until Oct 10th.
 



We've played a few money games and I don't recall having a big rash of injuries in any of them. For JSU money games make sense even over certain home games because we need a certain number of fans to just break even in memorial. We can't just play anyone at memorial and hope to make money. I would imagine it makes less sense for a school like SU because in theory they should be able to play a small school at home and still make a decent profit. But I don't know their finances.

Certain money games make sense for all of us from both a financial standpoint and a possibility of being competitive if we play well (which of course hasn't happened this season). But like I said in the preseason, at this point, any hope for any of us being competitive against P5 schools is nonsensical.

SWAC schools can't compete against non power 5 schools. We are closer to Tuskegee and Miles than we are to La tech and MTSU.
