Will the Alcorn vs. JSU Game FINALLY have a Significance in 2015?

Wow. Yeah, the power has gone to your head. Speaking from a program that has plenty more SWAC Championships and National Championships than Alcorn, an arch rival is an arch rival on any day of the week. Season records and tomorrow's title game doesn't matter on game day. A Conference Title is sweeter when you beatyour arch rival.

I know that you aren't use to being a SWAC Champion, but 2 conference losses to a 7-5 and 5-7 take away the dominance factor. Although it's not a bad thing, I watched Alcorn do a great job of intimidating teams as well.


Lastly, winning a title in 3 years with a sound coach like Hopson is not being ahead of schedule. Alcorn has some talent to work with upon his arrival. I called the title run on this board the day Hopson was hired because I knew that he was going to bring Alcorn some good recruiting ties. I knew that Alcorn was going to be a factor in the East as soon as he put his players in the mix.

Good luck to the Braves once again, but y'all are riding the unicorn a bit too high.

I feel like Valley will be better honestly so I ain't counting them out too much. Some of these same schools worrying about Valley beating JSU need to be worrying about Valley beating their school. Like we always say, anything can happen in the SWAC and although I don't care for comegy as a coach he can recruit well so we jus gone have to wait and see.

As far as I know, the Hornets are eligible for the SCG but not the Celebration Bowl.

Naw, it's not about Alcorn talking, it's about fact or fiction. It's a fact that Hopson is a good coach and Alcorn won the SWAC title outright. I predicted it two years ago and it was great to see the Braves finally win it. What's fiction is the term "dominance" anywhere affiliated with it. Losses to two first year coaches with a combined record of 12-12 takes out the dominance factor.

Anyway, good luck this season except for when the G-Men come to town.

You are right about that, but JSU and UABP are my dark horses. People better not sleep on them. (Although JSU's media hype is starting to get folks realizing that there roster is something serious.)

Of course they haven't received any real publicity on their recruiting class because they are Valley, but their recruiting class was full of speed and big play makers from winning high schools only. Just as he did last year, Comegy brought in a full class of kids from winning high school programs only in his attempt to change the culture. I think it's going to work.

Next season, Valley will have the talent and depth needed to compete every week. There is no doubt in my mind about it.

Most wont agree, but I also see them having a brighter future and honestly I'm all for it. We need more competition in the SWAC. I'm tired of only 2-3 schools dominating the SWAC every season. Kinda makes it boring imho. Tho I hate it had to be my school, we need more surprises and upsets like when they beat us this past season. It keeps the SWAC interesting atleast and gives us more to talk about and look forward to in the next seasons. JSU vs MVSU is one of the main games everyone wants to see next year, myself included.

Ok...I wouldn't sleep on the Hornets either. I've noticed a lot of people, for some reason, don't expect Jenkins to have the Hornets ready to play ball. He's gonna have Bama State playing some good physical football. Jenkins' BCU teams, while very undisciplined(a lot of personal foul penalties), were physical and quick.

We lost both SCGs because Comegy is a dumb coach. So yeah, we rebounded when we fired him.

You gonna be WRONG, WRONG, WRONG about Valley.. You think you seen bad Valley teams? Wait til this year. You won't believe how bad this team will be. They have had to install new offensive and defensive systems and did Valley even have a spring? If not, you can cancel Christmas.. If they did, you can STILL cancel Christmas. Now, they will get up for JSU and fight us tooth and nail... but they won't come close to winning any other game.

..and Comegy won't be there in 2016. If he is, he will shock the hell out of me.

Also, Comegy didnt' know his players on both sides of the ball... LOL You all just have NO clue about Comegy. Really. Have you ever heard Comegy make a football statement? NO! He has no clue what is going on. He is a GREAT manager tho. We lost that game because the JSU defense and special teams sucked schematically. The same reasons why we lost to GSU and PV. We didn't make changes until the end of the year.

Who called those dumb plays. Simmons can't work well under pressure and he needs to feed off the defense. If the defense helps him out, yo azz in trouble. If not.....

Like I read everything you all say. I have never seen a post about playcalling. That was just MY OWN observation. I can even tell you what I mean? Can you? Also, the only excuses I have seen Acornites give is 1.) We were overlooking JSU and 2.) The female ref cheated for JSU... They have a great offensive line coach with about 12 returning players to work with. If Valley's QB can find his stride, they will compete this season in several games.

I just can't see them not being a different team next season.

I agree with you there.. they do have a good o-line coach but what else do they have. And yes, Comegy is a WINNER and a good recruiter.. but he can't coach.

A great offensive line coach! I watched that man create a division II powerhouse of a line Tuskegee. In the first half against Mississippi State when he was at JSU, he had those kids believing that they belonged there. Those guys were having their way vs Tulane. I don't know how he practices, but he is one of the few SWAC coaches who show that their offensive line is a technically sound unit. Valley is lucky to have him and he will help those guys turn things around.

yeah.. he was the one coach we wanted to keep but we felt that Chang bringing in his own o-line coach was better for the system.

Gatewood is a good corner. His problem is he allows people to get in his head, then he gets too emotional and doesn't play smart after that. He led the SWAC in PD last year
