I am assuming that everyone thinks just because you have a name in coaching that you will win at whatever school you go too, it's a good chance when you have the same staff from the previous jobs but if not, NO SIR ! Just because you have 14 starters or more returning you are also considered to win! No SIR! Its all about your School and expectations lol Probably not but it is about Type of players and being disciplined at the right times!

ASU 2nd in the East. Fugg outta here.
ASU isn't far from the rest of you. The SWAC never is. We return a good nucleus, including the d player of the year and 2 first team OL. Plus, we have an obvious upgrade on the sideline too. Not to mention, the "entire" roster aint been released yet. . When ASU goes to Nashville and kick tnst to sleep, that might wake some of yall up.

MH,

I actually agree with you. We know you have talent and, even tho you don't have a DC :snicker:, we know not to overlook ASU. However, as I keep telling you....your problem is not coaching or talent. It's that you are ASU. You can't get around that.

One thing is for sure tho.. many trains of thought are out there. Most will give Alcorn benefit of the doubt but I think we ALL know they won't be as strong this year. Then others look at OMJ vs Jenkins and think that Jenkins has the track record and will win and those same people look at OMJ and laugh. Then there are some who know that JSU is JSU (a winner) and that OMJ is really an under-rated coach with an under-rated staff. I know AAMU folks are scratching their heads because they just KNOWED they would be picked over Old Man Jackson but I keep trying to tell them, they will never have the talent for what they want to do. The battle for the EAST is gonna be interesting and many factors will come into play to determine if Alcorn, JSU or Alabama State will be in Houston. I think after this year, you all will have a new found respect for ole Mudbone!

The flip side to that is that we don't have the same DC we did last year. And the year before.

They may not be "as strong", but I see nothing wrong with Alcorn being the pick at this point.

Based on what?

as for the "winner" part, since I'm on the high road, I won't bother to comment.

Based on what?
.

Fair question and all I can say to that is you will see. OMJ ain't no dummy. OMJ has been around football all of his life. One of our players who complained the MOST last year was on twitter this week talking about how much OMJ offers them knowledge-wise. OMJ has connections and he knows what he wants and how he wants the team to look. His coaching staff was a melting pot thrown together last year. This year, we are mostly intact with a few improvements in our weakest areas ( o-line and DC). Alcorn should be picked to finish first and OMJ is the laughing stock of BCF right now but wait til mid-October.... Ya'll azzez gone be scared! lol

MH,

JSU can recommend two DC for you. One of them used to be a DC at Wake Forest and Indiana and the other is a HC of a DC program. :)

They use the same criteria when ranking the big boys as well. So it's not like it's something new. The teams that return the most starters and same coaching staff or improved coaching get pre-season rankings. Nothing new.

But AlaBama State is replacing their coach, OC, DC okay the entire staff and no spring practice??

Did you see our team last year? LOL. If we play this year like we played last year, most of these teams won't even need Fall Camp to beat us.

Besides, it's not a great deal of distance between #'s 1,2 and 3. Alcorn is a no-brainer at #1, but Bama State and JSU- just depends on who you ask.

True. But you know if Nick Saban left Alabama or Urban Meyer left Ohio State this off season and was at Texas A&M for example with their returning starters, they would have them as a favorite in the SEC West. I guess folks are that enamored with Jenkins and his past success and think he will walk in with all the talent Bama State is said to be returning and right the ship right away. Pete did the same thing in 93. He walked into a stocked SU team that Kimble and Casem had recruited in and won right away. So it's possible. I don't think Jenkins has to rebuild at ASU. His issue will be the other distractions and whether the players respond to him after playing for Barlow.

Dang LS. You kind of harsh on JSU. I know yall played bad. But there is talent on the team. So I expect JSU to be better this year. How much better is the question. TP wants to annoint you guys as champs though. LOL.

He ain't gonna shock nobody with Duhart.

JR, I just have my own expectations... I jumped off the bandwagon last year after we lost to Valley. I KNOW we should have been 6-1 when Valley left Jackson. I think we have made the adjustments to have a great season. If we have not, I'm only gonna be concerned with the Ramblin Wreck! TP don't have time to waste on foolishness this year.

How you know he is going to play Duhart? He is a new coach. He has no allegiance to Duhart. I imagine if that kid don't show Jenkins something or grasp the offense then it will be another QB playing. Especially with Mark Orlando as the OC. Duhart better have his head right or Orlando will replace him quickly.

BAMA State has not had a good QB since Jackson ...and u know I know my QBs... (snicker)
