LSU clobbers Texas Southern 15-0 in NCAA softball tournament opener

Advocate staff photo by HILARY SCHEINUK -- LSU's A.J. Andrews rounds third base after being batted in on a home run by Bailey Landry in the first inning during the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, Friday, May 15, 2015, at LSU's Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La.

The LSU softball team had to wait and wait and wait to get rolling in the NCAA Baton Rouge regional.

Then LSU rolled over Texas Southern in a 15-0 run-rule victory after 4½ innings in an opening-round game Friday night at Tiger Park.

After starting more than two hours late because of two weather delays in an earlier game, then enduring another 27-minute weather delay after one batter in the bottom of the first inning of its game, LSU wound up sending 15 batters to the plate in the first and scoring 10 runs.

“That was a good way to start our first game,” said shortsop Bianka Bell, who had a home run and triple and four RBI. “We just have to carry it into tomorrow.”

That won’t have much time as LSU (45-11) will play Arizona State, which defeated Nebraska 5-2 in Friday’s first game, at 11 a.m. Saturday.

An elimination game between Texas Southern 25-17 and Nebraska is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Just shows the difference between us and them as I see good blacks all over the regional but everyone wants what we want....

If we could piece together an all star black team we would be deadly..lol

Those teams have shut down pitchers that will not give up a run against teams like ours and make few errors in the field.

FAMU lost 6-0 to the number 1 overall seed Florida Gators last night...the Lady Rattlers ended losing to FAU 7-2 this afternoon...the ladies played tough. It was a 2-2 game until the 5th inning, then FAU put 5 runs in the 5th and 6th innings.

Didn't Bethune Cookman win a regional a few years ago?

I think so...I've gotta go back and check that stat. I know FAMU and BCU have had some positives in the postseason in the past...both have regional victories

EDIT: BCU has won a regional...they played Texas in a Super Regional some years ago

6-0 is very respectable considering what I witnessed Florida do to SEC teams that made the postseason. Their offense comes and goes, but they don't give up many runs.

Man. FAMU's pitcher vs Florida! Lord help me! That girl had the camera man forgetting to zoom in on the strike zone! Lol.

Trunk junk!

I'll come out and say. I am only spending my money to see Southern or Florida play. I'll cheer for the team to put on a good show, but I won't go as far as buying tickets to go watch them play.

If the baseball team goes to Ft. Worth I'll be there to support.

Cause I'm not going to that hostile LSU crowd, fight through traffic, and struggle to find parking if it's not involving my 2 favorite teams. lol
