Video of the Southern-Texas Southern fight

The big center from Southern shoved 44 , prior to 44 attempted a punch. The Southern cheerleader grabbed a TSU player and got slammed. He probably would have been better off grabbing a Southern player if he was truly trying to intervene.

A shove may not be a punch, but it is an act of aggression.

A knee to the pelvis is an act of aggression as well but throwing an actual punch is another ball game.

Yes, you were lying. You were seated exactly 3 rows in front of me. your view was no better than mine. The first punch was thrown by number 44 for TSU. She should also be dismissed from the team. The SU player that pushed the TSU player into an SU player should also be gone. The TSU player that took the charge kneed the SU player to get her off of her. that is how it all started, but you can form your own opinions/lies, whatever you want to call it.

Ninja quit lying...and I could see very well from my seat!

TxSU started the brawl. Folks were trying to break up a tussle, and @ 0:17 seconds ol' girl from TxSU came in the frame like a bowling ball and a fist in the air. Then it became a brawl.

Be careful Herbert will come in saying he saw a coach pull a gun.

Where is that get up rams fool??? Bet he won't mention su having the most hood, ghetto cheerleaders in the south!!! What a travesty. Do they have an ex con running their athletics? Something is always going wrong with su. I feel sorry for txsu. Being the best and some thugs won't let you be great. SMH

Y'all being the WORST and having thugs (and sucker punchers) while NOT being great. WR's running 5.9 40 times, a coach that wears a diaper, a OC that doesn't speak any english, and a basketball program that doesn't exist. Maybe you should leave this convo to folks with actual talent. Which the Lynch St THUGS lack.

This is My Problem.... I blame the SWAC for what seems to be a terrible choice of Refs.. This game was for #1, You have to expect the game to be emotional. You had only 1 ref step in, if both refs would have stepped up, we wouldn't be talking... The Lady ref walked away from the situation. Im like Chris Paul, this might not be for her.. Were was the 3rd Ref? running also??? They didn't have control of the Game, the Ref should have stepped in on that charge or Block to ensure nothing happening... I BLAME THE SWAC

Yea all the players and coaches beat the 3rd Ref down the Court... And a SU cheerleader punched the hell out of one of those girls...

I won't QUITE go that far, although I asked that same question of a friend of mine when viewing the video. A few points, officials generally are cautioned against breaking up fights. It's not a hard fast rule, but generally speaking, if you can't stop it before it starts, it becomes the job of game management and police. As for the female ref, I'm not quite sure why she didn't "close down hard" towards the developing group of players after the call (see what the white official did....that's called closing down hard....run in quick and make your presence known). It even looks like that 2nd official had signaled a technical foul (not sure on who) right before the cork popped on the fight.

I don't fault the third official at all. Take into account the play. TSU initially had the ball going the opposite way. That third ref was the "lead" official on that play, and was on the TSU end line. There was a steal near the division line and a quick transition ending with an offensive foul. From 75 feet away, he had no way of knowing what was about to happen, and when he observed it, he sprinted the length of the floor and got into the fray. Both male officials were physically trying to stop the fight, but were overmatched, so they did as officials are taught, backed out and observed.

Last point about officials, as I have seen many crews come and go. I don't think this was a bad crew. I have seen MANY worse. I think they called a good, fair game to the point of the fight. It wasn't like this game was particularly chippy before this.
