Can Odums and Hopson do it again?

Now I know it's only Febuary, but based off your schools performance during the later part of the 2014 football season and the current class of recruits will this be a repeat of 2014 or will there be new breaths of fresh air in NRG Stadium come Dec...... Way in !!!

My prediction

West:
Grambling
Prarie View A&M
SU
UAPB
TxSU

East:
Jackson State
Alcorn State
Alabama A&M
MVSU
Alabama State

I would like to add that I am extremely happy to see a rise in the conference. With all the new coaches in the conference I see a more competitive conference as a whole especially in the east. After this year, I think one or two new changes will be coming from the west. With that off my chest, let the war begin !!!

Yea!!! Bama state has to get adjusted to a new system and often it takes time but it might not. But Jsu on the other hand focused on filling in missing gaps in a 5-7 team. In my opinion that's not bad. Most people act like Jsu went 2-10 then I could see the lack there of but Alcorn success will depend on how well the team can learn there new offensive philosophy . Yes I put Jsu in front of Alcorn because they did beat Hopson and only lost by 5 to grambling. The lost to Bama was due to having not one offensive lineman to feel in the gap when the two where hurt. Remember o-line depth was an issue even before season. The score of jsU and Bama where both below 10 until we lost our two o lineman. But if Jsu doesn't produce this year then I support change but you have to give coaches the first year to feel around the sea to even know what tools are available and needed. In my opinion Bama state hasn't proven themselves in a while so I can't just imagine them to be this dominant team especially this year. Maybe in future and Jenkins has to prove himself in the SWAC. Winning elsewhere doesn't guarantee you nothing in the Southwestern Athletic conference. Just being honest.

You do realize Grambling was winless when JSU lost to them, right?

And I don't know how any objective person who follows JSU football can have confidence in Harold Jackson after a very disappointing season in 2014.

Jenkins is a better coach than Barlow and Jackson. I don't know how a team can hire a coach that is significantly better than the one it replaced and be worse off. It just doesn't make any sense.

I can see Bama State giving Alcorn problems in the East. If SU can stay healthy and continue to develop its young players, we will definitely be the favorites to win the West again.

Man when it come to football dnt just comment without thinking. Grambling was winless but look at the competition those lose came from. That just signifies the strength of there schedule. If I'm not mistaken, the lost was university of Houston, Lamar and BCU. And you can't say Jenkins is a better coach than Jackson. It's hard to compare the two due to both coming from two different ends of the stick. If that's the case Harold Jackson , fobbs, and Hopson are all in same boat. Neither three where head coaches compared to jenkins but you can't say Jenkins is better than those three. If you can coach you can just coach. In my opinion Jenkins is a decent coach mixed with a little hype. Secondly, people could make a case against Harold Jackson if the team was struggling due to other reason NOT including the offensive line. If you know anything about football, you would know so goes your o-line so goes your team. You have Brett farve under center and if the o-line is haveing issues you HAVE NOTHING. The o-line is the nucleus. If comegy was there he would have endured the same problems........ Let's take it comegy was still there with the same offensive line-------- do you think comegy can turn water to wine------- already knowing the answer to that what more could COMEGY do ???? Besides emphasize linemen in his next recruiting class right ?!?!? If I'm not mistaken inking 8 linemen plus ones already there kind of mean Harold Jackson did what Comegy and ONLY THING comegy could have done. I'm old school, until Jenkins performs on the field in the SWAC he"s all hype/business man/politician/football coach. The only reason I support Jackson is because I was right there with him this past season. At times I would be ready to jump ship on him until I would talk to him and he explain everything and then it makes sense. For instance I was mad because they didn't pull IVY, he was very slow and doesn't read defense well but come to find out the second string QB was hurt. Secondly I was mad because we running the ball and it was just not there ( OLINE). I would have rather gamble with the pass. Come to find out that was changs game plan to emplament more hot routes and to utilizes the TE in some crossing routes but the alumni had dealings on those decisions to run more. The new administration ( dr.myers) all of a sudden thrives off these few big donors and there thoughts and opinions. So before everyone start to complain or judge sometimes it's good to do a little investigating first.

What does Grambling being "winless" before beating J-State matter? Hope you're not trying downplay us. Can't be.

What
I agree with you. What does gsu being winless have to do with anything. It would if they lost to University of Faith or Louisiana college or whatever these new division 7 schools the SWAC throwing in to fill schedule but They played some great competition. It only actually made them stronger. When I saw that comment as his reply to my statement I almost didn't reply because I felt like I would be entertaining someone who really is just a spectator of football. I deal with football fanatics. People who understand how to disect football. I could explain every team in the SWAC pros and cons because football is football no matter what logo in the center of the field. Again Bama has to prove themselves along with Jenkins. If Jenkins does like Hopson did at Alcorn then no one would have a problem giving props to Bama but you have to earn it like Alcorn did. I only give Jsu props because they did dang well for a first year coach, offensive line issues and technically a freshman QB. ( NO Ivy is not freshman but the 2014 season was his first official starting season due to a injury in 2013 ). I'm even excited to see spady and co. So you can't say I'm all for Jsu, I just understand the game of football. If you see improvement whether its season to season or game to game then you have yourself something, but when your at a stand still or on decline then that's a problem . Jsu, grambling both did improve throughout season as did Alcorn improved over a period of 3 years. It's all about seeing IMPROVEMENT, like I said whether its game to game or season to season. IMPROVEMENT IMPROVEMENT IMPROVEMENT. One thing about Jsu, grambling and Tennessee state; they dnt rebuild they reload.

All of these new coaches will make the swac Interesting. Then , su will not have a spring. I'm anxious to see how this season plays out.

We will all see at the 2015 SWAC Football Championship. Until then, the ball could spin anywhere, to any team. This is the SWAC we are talking about here.

The Bayou Classic will determine the West, and I do believe JSU will be a much improved team along with Alabama State, Mississippi Valley and AAMU. Jenkins lead BCU to a MEAC Championship in his first year, and Comegy is making great strides in recruiting in the delta. UAPB and PV will be better, but they won't catch Grambling and SU this year. Fobbs and Odums has shown their ability to coach against the odds, and both gained solid recruiting classes. Grambling, JSU, Alcorn, and SU will have the scariest offenses

Alcorn played players who actually were not supposed to play. Camp injuries allowed some to get that experience. Those players will be back with all the OL and most of the defense with the exception of 4... Alcorn is poised to be back in Houston.

Dude must not realize that SU has pretty much everyone back plus the starters who missed last year. Oh well.

Plus a favorable schedule.

The BC will be for the West again.
