Harbaugh to Michigan a done deal?

One of the things that held Michigan back with their coaches is that they ... until recently ... have been cheap when it comes to paying coaches. UM has hella deep pockets (the Ford family are big boosters, along with the folks that founded Dominos Pizza and other big Fortune 500 company folks).

I was surprised to see D'Antonio at Michigan State makes as much as he does too.

He hasn't had any offers to leave... He was a hot name 2 years ago when everybody thought Mullens was about to get fired. Hudspeath use to OC at Mississippi st. Other than that no school has had his name in the mix.

Thanks for 4 competitive years. You turned the franchise around from the Dennis Erickson /Mike Nolan/ Mike Singletary debacle. Good luck at Michigan.

Not just with head coaches, but with the entire staff as well. That being said, it's a ridiculous amount of money to coach "amateur athletics."

Just to put that into some kind of perspective (which probably isn't a good correlation to begin with) the San Francisco Giants had a $154 million payroll in 2014.

Urban will be fine as he loves to be inside kids houses to recruit. Harbaugh will help Michigan for sure. But they got some adjustments they have to make in the way they approach things. So he may be the one who leads them out of it. Maybe they will listen to a Michigan man.
 
I think Michigan will be fine. I expect them to be bigger and physical in the trenches when Harbaugh arrives.

I think the whole "Michigan Man" thing has been exaggerated to some extent. Rich Rod is a good coach but was a bad fit for a number of reasons, including the errant belief that Lloyd Carr (who sabotaged a lot of things behind the scenes) had been forced out, when truthfully he wanted to step down after Bo passed. Coincidentally, a lot of the same forces that were against Rodriguez were also adamantly against Harbaugh in 2007 as well. Hoke was just a bad coach (my Charlie Weiss comparison turned out to be painfully accurate). Still, he was pretty much allowed to succeed or fail mostly without interference. Nobody really batted an eye when he ran a lot of spread concepts with Denard. The difference between those hires and this one is that there was an undisputed top target and the school went out and got him. Harbaugh will come in and recruit well (even Brade Hoke pulled in top 10 classes), and people will pretty much stay out of his way. The only issue will be the constant "Harbaugh going back to the NFL" rumors that will start a few minutes after tomorrow's press conference.

Harbaugh brought in Blue Chip recruits to Stanford. He will have no problems recruiting at Michigan. Plus what makes him even more dangerous is the Cali connection. That's where the QB's are.

Plus Urban really likes recruiting. He has a passion for it. So I am not worried about it. It is good for the Big Ten to have another coach with some name recognition behind him. But make no mistake, Urban will continue to do what he does at Ohio State well with no ambition of coaching in the NFL. As soon as Harbaugh wins 9 games the folks in the NFL will be trying to pry him away from Michigan. I give him 3 years before he itches to come back to the NFL. Sounds like his family is pushing him towards Michigan. You best believe that is what Urban, Dantoni at MSU will be saying on the recruiting trail. Don't forget about your boy at Penn State either. Franklin is going to be something to deal with now that all their sanctions are lifted.

I am telling folks who to watch out for is Mike Riley. He has them Cali connections and I think it will help Nebraska as they have lost out with their skill position players over the years. I got my eye on them. Harbaugh has his work cut out for him. Michigan folks want a complete turnaround for next year. It will be interesting how Jim deals with them folks. Stanford folks ain't like that. Michigan folks are arrogant as they come. Uppity. Harbaugh already has to mend fences on what he said about Michigan academics when he was at Stanford or first got to SF. A lot of Michigan alums I know are nervous about Harbaugh but realize this may be the best they can do at this point.

Yeah I have a feeling Mike Riley will get Nebraska on track too. They had talent just lacked in coaching.

Urban Meyer recruits against all of the national powers. Michigan won't affect him as much as y'all think. Urban Meyer recruits in Florida routinely, which is where the speed is at. lol

Did you see them against USC? I was shocked they were in that game. Nebraska with the right coach as you said, may just make some noise finally.

Harbaugh will get some players just on name only. Urban can't sign everybody no more than Saban can sign everybody. I expect Harbaugh to be better than what Hoke was at Michigan. The only issue I see for Harbaugh at Michigan is dealing with his folks there. They will expect him to come in and start beating Urban's arse right away. They are not going to wait for a couple of years for that to happen. Not to mention he has to start beating Michigan State too.
